Closure of Saltwell Road intersection extended

LISBON — The closure of Saltwell Road from state Route 45 to Dickey Drive has been extended nearly a week, with the road expected to reopen May 14.

Lisbon Water Department Senior Plant Operator Chris Peterson announced the extended closure, saying the project to replace a collapsed sewer line is taking a little longer than expected.

Originally, he thought they would be able to reopen the road today, but that’s no longer the case.

Motorists in Lisbon trying to reach the post office, the Board of Elections, the Department of Job and Family Services, Veterans Service Commission and other offices and businesses off of Dickey Drive and the Columbiana County Municipal Court and Title Department and other businesses along Saltwell east of state Route 45 will have to continue following the detour, accessing Saltwell from state Route 164.

The village water department had already been planning on installing a new sewer line along there as part of the North Market Street sewer replacement project, but on April 24, the plans changed for the sewer line at that intersection after the line collapsed.

Peterson said the amount of sewer line being replaced is now 120 feet at the intersection. Originally he said they would have to replace about 40 feet of line just south of the post office, but they decided to do the whole line across the top of Saltwell at state Route 45.

Starting at $2.99/week.
