Crestview High School students share past year’s accomplishments with school board
COLUMBIANA — Crestview Local High School students have accomplished a lot over this school year, specifically in the area of preparing for life after graduation.
High School students, led by student board representative Blasey Biser, gave a detailed presentation to the board of education in April.
The presentation showed that 75 students in grades 8-12 took advantage of the College Credit Plus courses offered, totaling 1,567.25 credit hours earned and resulting in an estimated savings of $457,564 for Crestview families.
The savings comes from the fact that most students taking CCP courses were able to take them at the Crestview campus as opposed to traveling to other universities.
The on-campus core classes were also taught by Crestview teachers, resulting in the courses only being roughly $41 per credit hour as opposed to $131 per credit hour, according to the presentation made to the Crestview school board.
The presentation also showed that 45 high school students were able to take Advanced Placement classes and exams during this school year.
Students also took advantage of career exploration opportunities, which included featured speakers from a forensic psychologist, ER nurse, and an FBI analyst.
Students were also able to meet with more than 30 colleges that participated in the College Fair.
Students said in the presentation that they were also pleased with a change that resulted in a new dual language club.
The Spanish and French clubs were combined this year to create the Dual Language Club.
Members of the club met throughout the year and learned about French and Spanish culture.
