Perry Township trustees authorize sale of tractor
PERRY TOWNSHIP — The board of trustees completed the proposed sale of its old John Deere mower in its meeting Monday.
With the township’s new MowerMax mower delivered and in service, the trustees voted unanimously to authorize the sale of the John Deere to Franklin Township for $50,000. Trustee Tony Ieropoli said the John Deere would be picked up and the check for the sale would be delivered Tuesday.
Trustee Chair Steve Bailey suggested that the township use the $50,000 to pay down its balance from financing the new MowerMax unit.
“My thought is, once we receive the check, the new mower was $256,000. We financed $156,000, and we put the $50,000 directly on the mower. That would leave us a balance of approximately $106,000 with interest next year,” said Bailey. “We would budget in half of that, and then the other half the next year and have it paid off in two years, which would be a minimal amount of interest and not hurt our road department funds.”
The trustees also voted unanimously to approve repairs to the road department’s Ford F-250 truck at Salem Tire for $979.63. Bailey said that the work was for new brakes and rotors.
Other equipment matters included the purchase of three sets of fire gear from Howell Rescue Systems for $11,245.14 for new members of the fire department.
Other matters approved included: a $500 joint auto-extrication training with the Winona Volunteer Fire Department from Howell Rescue Systems; and a routine resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the budget commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor that the township must approve every year.
The board of trustees will meet next at 4 p.m. on May 25.
