SALEM — Salem Preservation’s Historic Reilly Banner committee is preparing to install seven new banners on East Pershing Street outside of Sebo Stadium and Reilly School honoring individuals whose lives have been impacted by Reilly Stadium. These banners are intended to reflect the historical significance of the stadium and how it makes a change on those who step foot there.
This year’s honorees include former band directors who set the tune and built the “Pride of Salem” — Howard “Doc” Pardee, Richard Howenstein and Jeff Jeckavitch — along with former athletics director Ray Steffen. Tom Wright is celebrated for his involvement with the community and leading the youth soccer program on this turf. Beth Hippely Chestnut and Dustin Huffman were student athletes who set long-standing records and are remembered for leading the team to victory on the track.
Awardees will have their banners proudly hung outside of Sebo Stadium for the outdoor athletic season along with previous nominees on an annual rotation.
