Leetonia council addresses several financial matters
LEETONIA — Village council reviewed several financial matters in its June 3 meeting.
Council voted unanimously to approve a resolution authorizing Village Administrator Roman Ferry to enter into a contract with Auto Agent Data LLC. Ferry explained that the village currently processes digital utilities payments through MuniciPay, which is now outsourcing that process.
“Currently we use MuniciPay for online transactions for our utilities. They are outsourcing their system to Auto Agent, which is why we have to enter an agreement with them,” Ferry said.
The council also voted unanimously to authorize the use of $8,722.91 from the General Improvement Fund for part of the construction costs of the new restrooms at the splash pad. Fiscal Officer Nick Mistovich said he was unable to determine original source of the funds, but that they had been in the General Improvement Fund since 2019.
“I don’t know where it came from; the system can only go back to 2019, and it’s been there since that time. It obviously came in sometime prior to that. I don’t know where it came from, what it was for or so forth,” Mistovich said.
Ferry told the council that it had been brought to his attention by Councilwoman Sue Strobel that in years past it had been standard practice for the village to distribute “welcome to the village” folders to new residents which contained a welcome letter and information about Leetonia. He said that he wanted to renew the program and requested permission to purchase 100 folders at a cost of $600, which the council voted unanimously to approve.
Ferry said that the folder would contain a welcome letter on the village’s official letterhead as well as papers with information that would be useful to new residents including details about notable locations in the village, annual events, dates for village council and committee meetings, and important phone numbers. He also said that he had spoken with the Leetonia Exempted Village School District about potentially reviving the program, and that the district wanted to provide flyers with information about the school to be included in the folders.
Council also approved the purchase of memorial flags and holders for the graves of the village’s volunteer firefighters for $600.
Other business included the approval of a resolution establishing and updating a village cybersecurity policy, and the rehire of Gary Still as volunteer firefighter.
The village council will meet next at 6:30 p.m. on June 17.
