Salem's new 50-year time capsule was buried and secured in place in preparation for the official dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. July 3, immediately prior to the Grand Parade, and will kick off a full day of celebrations of the United States' semiquincentennial. The capsule was buried at the corner of State Street and Ellsworth Avenue, the same site where its predecessor was buried in 1976. City Councilwoman and Salem U.S. 250 Liaison Sara Baer said that the America 250 seal had been engraved on the Liberty Centre monument by OT Beight & Sons Inc, and that they would also be adding the planned recovery date for the capsule.
