COLUMBIANA -- The city's annual Street Fair received approval from City Council recently, and this year's event will include a few minor changes.
Street Fair organizer Jacob Sevek of the Columbiana American Legion presented the plans to council last week.
The 139th annual Street Fair will take place Sept. 10-12.
"There are some changes this year, thanks to progress on Main Street and uptown, so I am very excited about it," Sevek said.
The changes include moving bingo down to the Triple-A parking lot, having entertainment on the Garden of Eatin' stage, and additional parking at the former used Columbiana Cadillac Dealership lot.
Sevek said public parking at the former car dealership will be free.
"Hopefully we will continue to do this until those properties are sold or redeveloped," he said of the former car lot. "It would be great for the vendors to not have to search for parking."
In addition to requesting council approval for the event, which includes the routine waiver of necessary fees and the closure of North Main Street, Sevek also asked for approval to require American Legion approval for vendors wishing to set up in the Garden of Eatin' area.
Sevek explained he was asking for approval since it wouldn't be "fair" to other Street Fair vendors who pay to set up during the Street Fair.
Sevek said he has already spoken with the Rance family who own the Garden of Eatin' lot.
Council approved the request.
Sevek also said the bid was accepted to fix the electrical issues with lighting for the Big Tent this year.
"They are working to fix the electrical and make it a little bit lighter and easier to manage," he said.
Rides will be provided by Kissel Entertainment and the annual parade is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 10.
"I appreciate you all and your obvious continued support," Sevek told council.
