County treasurer extends second-half property tax deadline, launches online payment system
LISBON — Columbiana County property owners won’t have to pay their 2026 second-half real estate taxes until Aug. 21 after the July 29 due date was extended following approval by the Ohio Tax Commissioner.
Columbiana County Treasurer Bryan Blakeman announced the extension Tuesday in a press release.
According to the press release, the extension became necessary because the Columbiana County Auditor’s Office was required to wait for the State of Ohio to complete implementation of the House Bill 186 Inflation Cap Credit before tax bills could be finalized and issued.
House Bill 186 created a tax credit designed to help offset significant increases in property taxes caused by inflation-related increases in property values by providing qualifying property owners with a state-funded credit on their tax bills. Before counties could calculate and mail tax bills, the state was required to determine and distribute the necessary credit information for eligible parcels. As a result, additional time was needed to prepare the tax duplicate and ensure taxpayers received accurate tax bills. To provide taxpayers with sufficient time to receive their bills and make payment, the Ohio Tax Commissioner approved the revised collection deadline.
“This extension ensures that every property owner has adequate time to receive their tax bill and make payment without being adversely affected by delays outside of their control,” Blakeman said. “We appreciate the patience and understanding of our taxpayers as the auditor’s office completed the necessary state-mandated adjustments.”
He also announced the successful implementation of a new online payment platform through InvoiceCloud. Planning and development for the new system began in the fall of 2025, and the platform is now fully operational.
According to the press release, the upgraded payment system provides taxpayers with greater flexibility and convenience by accepting a wide range of payment methods, including: credit and debit cards, electronic checks (ACH/e-check), PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay and other supported digital wallet payment options.
Taxpayers can also enroll in free email and text payment reminders to help avoid missing future due dates.
“Our office is continually looking for ways to improve the services we provide to Columbiana County taxpayers,” Blakeman said. “The implementation of InvoiceCloud represents one of the most significant customer service enhancements our office has introduced in recent years. Taxpayers now have more payment options than ever before, along with convenient reminder services that make paying property taxes easier and more accessible.”
Taxpayers can visit www.treasurer.columbiana.oh.gov to make online payments, enroll in payment reminders, and access additional information regarding their property taxes.
The Columbiana County Treasurer’s Office reminds taxpayers that all second-half 2026 real estate tax payments must be received or postmarked by Aug. 21, 2026, to avoid statutory penalties.
