Bid opening set for work at Columbiana softball, baseball fields

COLUMBIANA -- A bid opening is set for Aug. 10 for civil work for the new softball and baseball fields for the Columbiana School District.

District Superintendent Dr. Don Mook said the bid process began last week with a meeting with potential construction companies.

He said the bid opening will take place just before the regular board of education meeting on Aug. 10.

"This is for the softball and baseball field civil work. The turf will be set to go for request for proposal to turf companies to add the actual turf and rubber to the surfaces," he explained.

The district is working on adding a new all-turf baseball field and new all-turf softball field as part of an overall improvement plan for its athletic facilities.

The district has been working on these projects in addition to preparing for the new school year with other facility updates.

These updates were present to the board of education during the July meeting.

According to information provided by the district's marketing team, the new baseball field will sit where the track field events currently stand and will feature heated, recessed dugouts, professional fencing, a modern scoreboard and for the first time in the school's history, field lighting.

The new softball field will sit just south of the track, offering its own heated, recessed dugouts, artificial turf playing surface and a lighted field of its own.

The district plans to have construction completed on these field this winter, with both fully operational for the 2026-27 Spring sports season.
