SALEM -- A public ceremony will be held Saturday to commemorate the completion of renovations at a downtown business.
The Columbiana County Port Authority and the Sustainable Opportunity Development (SOD) Center are inviting "community members, business leaders, elected officials, and local partners" to celebrate the completion of a private building rehabilitation project downtown at 9:30 a.m. at the Broadway Exchange, 165 S. Broadway Ave. in downtown, according to a press release.
The ceremony will feature a ribbon cutting to "mark the grand opening" of the Broadway Exchange and "celebrate the positive impact of partnership, reinvestment, and economic growth within the community." Following the ceremony, the Broadway Exchange promises a day of celebration from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. including a treasure hunt throughout the store, giveaways, and specials from their more than 30 local vendors and small businesses.
The project saw the building at 145-165 S. Broadway Ave., which is owned by Teldar Real Estate and previously housed the Lion and Lamb bookstore, renovated in "the county's first grant-funded downtown revitalization project of its kind." Upgrades to the building included replacement of the roof, code upgrades for electrical and plumbing and Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility upgrades.
"This project demonstrates what can be accomplished when public organizations, property owners, entrepreneurs, and community partners work toward a shared vision. It serves as a model for future revitalization efforts and continued investment throughout Salem's downtown district," the release stated.
The renovation was partially funded by a $250,000 grant from the Target of Opportunity Program through the Ohio Department of Development and the Community Development Block Grant program. The grant was administered by the County Port Authority, and the project contract was awarded to the Dennison Management Group which submitted the lone bid of $389,721.
