BEAVER TWP. (WKBN) - An East Liverpool man is facing felony charges after a reported police chase in a stolen vehicle.
A woman called 911 just before 8:30 a.m. Thursday to report that she had been assaulted and her vehicle was stolen in Beaver Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers located the stolen vehicle shortly after that and attempted to pull it over, but reported that the driver refused to stop, leading them on a chase.
The vehicle stopped on state Route 45 and Blott Road, where the driver ran into a nearby cornfield.
Troopers arrested the suspect, whom they identified as Robert Byrd, following a short foot chase. They took Byrd into custody after hitting him with a stun gun.
Crews took Byrd to the hospital after he admitted to eating an "unknown substance," investigators said.
He faces felony charges of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, strangulation and theft, as well as a first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence charge.
Byrd was arraigned in Canfield court Friday, and a preliminary hearing is set for August 7.
