HANOVERTON -- A United Local High School coach has unveiled plans for a dedicated team room for girls' athletic programs, with a separate locker room for visiting teams.
Girls Basketball Coach Cory Leek presented plans to the United Local Board of Education in July and August.
According to the minutes of the July meeting, Leek said the plan is to convert the current girls' locker room into the dedicated team room.
The new team room would be for all district girls athletics.
He added that construction logistics still need to be determined and that construction cannot begin until the current construction project is complete.
The board discussed the matter, noting that the work would need to adhere to building codes, and whether district parents could volunteer to construct the lockers or if a company would need to be hired.
As of the July meeting, the plan is to install 20 larger lockers and benches with locking storage.
The feasibility of selling the unused lockers through a fundraiser to offset costs was also discussed and that option was approved by the board during the August regular meeting.
Coach Leek had told the board in July that he believed the project cost could be covered primarily through youth basketball tournaments.
Leek also announced to the board his interest in organizing an out-of-state girls basketball trip that, if approved, would take place next June and include a shoot-out event and attendance at a WNBA game.
The board told Leek to work with the district's secretary, Danielle Satterfield, to ensure the trip follows the established field trip protocol.
Board member RuthAnn Rinto thanked Leek for his dedication to the girls' basketball team, according to the July meeting minutes.
