SALEM -- Shepherd of the Valley is inviting the Salem community for its first look at its new Salem campus during an open house Friday.
The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at 600 Legacy Lane, offering attendees tours of one of its independent living villas, which will be the first residences to welcome new residents to the community this fall.
The campus will feature 36 independent living villas once completed, with 12 villas set to be ready for residents to move in this fall. Lauren Flauto, Shepherd of the Valley Director of Marketing and Communication, said that of those initial 12, six have already been reserved.
"We've been excited about what this campus can mean for Salem, and now people have an opportunity to come out and start experiencing that vision for themselves," Shepherd of the Valley CEO Rich Limongi said. "We want this to be a community where people can continue enjoying their independence while having opportunities to stay active and engaged. Seeing the first villas come together is an exciting milestone for all of us."
Shepherd of the Valley will offer three floor plans for their independent villas ranging in size from approximately 970 to 1,465 square feet including: one bedroom with den; two-bedroom, two baths; and two-bedroom, two baths with den. All villas feature two dedicated indoor-outdoor spaces with a front porch and patio, and a single car garage and carports. According to a press release, "limited availability remains in the first phase of construction, and Shepherd of the Valley is currently accepting reservations for phases two and three."
In addition to the independent living villas, the Salem campus will also feature 52 mid-market independent apartments and an assisted living building with 36 private suites as part of a larger senior living campus designed to provide residents with housing options and amenities that can support them through different stages of retirement.
Flauto said that the assisted living building is expected to be completed in spring of 2027, and the independent apartments are expected to be completed by the beginning of 2028. The 34-acre campus will also feature a central club house to serve as a gathering place for residents, a chapel that will be accessible for all residents, and on-site storage. The club house will feature an on-site restaurant, fitness center, library, theater, lecture hall and additional supporting recreation, wellness and social connection.
"From the villas to the clubhouse and the different living options planned throughout the campus, we've put a lot of thought into what people want their next chapter to look like," Limongi said. "We're looking forward to opening the doors on Sept. 18 and giving the Salem community a chance to picture themselves here."
Shepherd of the Valley first broke ground on the Salem campus last September and anticipates construction of the entire community to be completed the beginning of 2028. Flauto said that Salem was selected as the location for the community after a survey of potential locations for expansion into Columbiana County identified a significant need for senior housing options in the area.
"We've had people thank us for bringing our community into [Salem], because they want to be able to continue living in the community they love," Flauto said.
