State report cards released for 2-25-2026 school year

By Staff Reports 3 min read

The Ohio Department of Education released its 2025-2026 School Report Cards on Tuesday.

Districts and schools receive overall ratings of 1-5 stars in half-star increments. A three-star rating meets state standards, a five significantly exceeds them, and a one "needs significant support to meet state standards."

Districts are also rated on six components: achievement, progress, gap closing, early literacy, graduation, and college, career, workforce, military readiness.

Statewide, the state has made gains in literacy, with statewide English language arts proficiency reaching a five-year high of 62.2%, according to a news release from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine's Office.

Salem Superintendent Jamie Kemats noted a consistent overall rating that is being addressed for improvement.

"Salem City Schools remains consistent with our 3-star rating. We're proud of the continuous improvement we've made in chronic absenteeism, which has seen a 27% improvement from the previous year," she said.

"This year, we will focus more closely on literacy and math achievement. We're working with a Read Ohio literacy coach and have secured additional curriculum support from the ESC to help drive that progress, Kemats said. "We've also added a college and career counselor to help open up more options for our students as they plan their futures. Our administrators, faculty, and staff work incredibly hard to provide our students with a first class education and we will continue working to improve outcomes for our students."
