HANOVERTON -- Salary increases have been awarded to members of both United Local School District unions this month.
The board of education approved new three-year contracts for the United Employee Association and the Ohio Association of Public School Employees that include a four percent salary increase in the first year.
District Treasurer Melissa Baker said that as part of the agreements, union members accepted higher health insurance deductibles and an increased employee share of premium costs.
"The savings associated with these insurance changes helped the district offset the cost of the salary increases," she said.
The new contracts are effective through July 31, 2029.
"I believe the negotiations resulted in a fair and responsible agreement. Both sides worked cooperatively to balance competitive compensation for our employees with the district's responsibility to manage costs and remain fiscally accountable to the community," Baker said.
Also during the meeting the board approved addendums to several administrative contracts, which included the superintendent, payroll officer, buildings and grounds supervisor, transportation supervisor, treasurer, assistant treasurer, superintendent's secretary, all three building principals, and athletic director/Dean of Students.
Baker said that administrators received a four percent salary increase and accepted the same health insurance changes as the unions, although the salary increase and insurance changes were separate from the union agreements.
