COLUMBIANA -- The city promoted a police officer and filled a vacant seat on the zoning board of appeals in recent weeks.
During its Sept. 15 meeting, city council approved hiring Bryan Granchie as sergeant for the Columbiana Police Department.
Granchie first joined the force in October of 2014 and then took over as K-9 officer in February of 2018, a position he has held since that time.
In June of 2024 he became a Drug Task Force Officer and is continuing to fill that role as well.
Council also approved appointing Tyler Thaxton to the Auxiliary Police Department.
As for the Board of Zoning Appeals, council approved appointing Dylan Fletcher to fill the unexpired term vacated by Jack Sutherin.
Sutherin's term expires Nov. 25, 2027 and Fletcher will serve on the board until then.
According to his background available online, Fletcher is a 2022 Columbiana High School Graduate who studied business administration from the Kent State University.
He is currently also serving on the Columbiana School District Board of Education, a role he began in January of this year following his successful election in November of 2025.
He also previously served on the Columbiana Planning Commission.
Fletcher was one of two who applied for the position on the zoning board of appeals.
The other applicant was Amanda Herman.
In other business during the meeting City Manager Lance WIllard announced that Greenford Christian Church will be holding a Community Project Day on Oct. 3.
The church plans to paint over 400 fire hydrants across the city.
"They mapped it out and will meet in the park by 8 a.m. and should be done by noon," Willard said.
Council also approved setting Trick or Treat for 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 with the closure of Elm Street from Prospect to Salem streets during that time.
