LISBON -- A Boardman area contractor convicted in 2024 for stealing from clients is facing another charge in Columbiana County, this time for aggravated theft for allegedly stealing $9,457 from a couple last fall.
John P. Bartos, 43, last known address Hubbard, appeared for arraignment Thursday in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court after being served with the secret indictment for the third-degree felony charge.
The indictment alleged the theft took place on Sept. 30, 2025 and noted that he entered guilty pleas to two or more felony theft offenses in May 2024.
Bartos entered a not guilty plea and was assigned Charley Kidder as his defense attorney. His bond had been set at $100,000 cash or surety.
A pretrial was set at 10 a.m. Nov. 16 in the courtroom of Common Pleas Court Judge Megan Bickerton for the new aggravated theft charge.
He's also scheduled to face a probation violation hearing on Nov. 20 in three separate theft cases. Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Washam had issued a bench warrant for Bartos after he failed to show up for the previously scheduled hearing in August. His defense attorney at the time had filed a motion to withdraw from the cases, citing irreconcilable differences with his client.
In May 2024, Bartos was sentenced to 90 days in jail as part of his three years of community control for three counts of theft.
Bartos had been accused of taking money from three clients and failing to do the work in Columbiana County.
He also faced similar charges in other counties, with a new indictment issued against him Thursday in Mahoning County for theft from a person in a protected class, a fourth-degree felony.
