County students touring CCCTC

LISBON -- Eighth-grade students across Columbiana County are touring the Columbiana County Career Technical Center (CCCTC) this week.

CCCTC Student Services Administrator Shannon Rabovsky said that students from all nine of the CCCTC's partner school districts, which include United Local, East Palestine, Beaver Local, Crestview, Wellsville, Columbiana, Southern Local, Leetonia and Lisbon, as well as the Salem City School District, would be participating in tours Monday through Thursday this week. She said that participating students tour the CCCTC's entire facility and learn about all 13 of the CCCTC's career programs with hands-on demonstrations.

Rabovsky said the tours and demonstrations are led by CCCTC students who serve as "senior ambassadors."

The eighth-grade tours have been an annual program at the CCCTC for the past 10 years.

Rabovsky said the program was started to give eighth-grade students an opportunity to see and learn about the programs they will participate in if they choose to attend the CCCTC during their junior and senior years of high school. She also said that by introducing students to the CCCTC's programs before they enter high school, they have time to investigate any programs which interest them further before deciding whether or not to register when they're in high school.

Rabovsky estimated more than 800 students will participate in this year's program over the course of the week.

The CCCTC will invite all students participating in this year's tours to return for its eighth-grade showcase from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 22 to tour and participate in demonstrations with their family.
