SALEM -- Salem's first responders were thanked for their service with a special luncheon on National First Responders Day.
The luncheon was held Wednesday in city council chambers and treated Salem's police, fire and EMS personnel to a meal of lasagna, salad, Italian bread and butter, with marble cheesecake for dessert by Blossom Nursing & Rehabilitation Center as a token of their appreciation for their service.
Attending first responders were also presented with a commemorative challenge coin in a black velvet box. Blossom also extended its appreciation to Salem's K-9 officers with special treat bundles for K-9 Chaz and K-9 Fero.
Multiple members of Blossom's team were present to thank the first responders in person. Blossom Clinical and Community Liaison Kathy McCoy told first responders that their efforts have life-changing impacts for community members. McCoy said that Blossom was proud to honor and support the first responders who "work night and day for our community."
"Today, we recognize the courage, compassion and dedication you bring to our community. Whether you're answering an emergency call, helping a neighbor, or comforting a family during a difficult moment, your work makes a difference. We especially appreciate the care you show our residents and their families. Knowing we can count on you means so much to our Blossom team," said McCoy
Nursing Home Administrator Jack Nordquist echoed McCoy's sentiments and said that he and the rest of the staff at Blossom were "just glad to be able to contribute and give back," and that "everything that's good for them is good for us." Mayor Cyndi Baronzzi Dickey also championed the efforts of the city's safety forces and their willingness to go above and beyond for the community.
"You guys help [Blossom] a lot throughout the year in a lot of ways even if they're a bit outside the city. You're always out there protecting and helping people in need," Dickey said.
