SALEM -- The Salem Memorial Building will be hosting its second annual Senior Expo.
"We're primarily looking to connect people in the senior community with people who have resources available that could be beneficial for that community. We've got people to provide help with your Medicaid insurance. We have Shepherd of the Valley coming, funeral pre-planning all sorts of things," Project Manager Ron Lankford said.
The expo will be held at the Memorial Building from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 9 and will offer local seniors an opportunity to connect with service financial, medical, in-home care, and community service providers. Lankford said that last year's expo was popular with both attendees and vendors and that there are already 24 vendors registered to attend thus far.
Lankford said that part of what makes the Memorial Building's expo unique is that all participating vendors have the opportunity to speak on the main stage and tell attendees about the services they provide.
"[The expo] had a very good start; all the vendors were very supportive of it last year," Lankford said.
Lankford said that each vendor contributes an item to be given away to attendees as door prizes, and that those prizes are distributed every 15 to 20 minutes. The memorial building will also have a table highlighting the services it offers to the community including the weekly Banquet in Salem community meals, AARP tax service, and new services that the Memorial Building is preparing to offer in the coming months.
In addition to the participating service providers, the expo will also feature snacks and water on site, and the Totally 80s Ice Ice Cream Shoppe truck will be on site with ice cream and pepperoni rolls available for purchase.
The event is open to the public at no cost.
Service providers interested in participating should contact Lankford at 330-831-2816 to register. Prospective attendees should call the Memorial Building at 234-575-7170 for additional information or any questions.
