Salem VFW Auxiliary to offer breakfast Sunday
SALEM--The Salem VFW Post 892 Auxiliary will host a public breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday at the post home, 496 Arch St. The haystacks or traditional breakfast will consist of eggs, pancakes, hash browns, sausage patties, toast, orange juice and coffee. Cost is $5 per meal.
'Small World' auditions set at Salem Community Theatre
SALEM--The Salem Community Theatre will hold auditions for "It's A Small World" youth musical review at 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday.
"It's A Small World" will be a musical production based on the Broadway hits from favorite Disney classics and other popular production numbers.
The production will feature kindergarten-through-high school performers. Those attending the audition will be asked to sing a one-minute selection of a song of choice. Participants should also bring a CD of the musical selection and be prepared to sing it acapella.

Lepper Library to show Spencer Tracy film Feb. 26
LISBON--Lepper Library will show a movie starring Spencer Tracy at 2 p.m. Feb. 26. This month's movie is a 1960 film based on a real life case about two great lawyers who argue for and against a science teacher accused of the crime of teaching evolution. Naloxone (Narcan) kits distribution set today
LISBON--A Naloxone (Narcan) kits distribution will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Family Recovery Center, 964 N. Market St., Lisbon, as part of the agency's Project DAWN program.
Any resident of Columbiana County with a loved one or friend known to use/abuse opioids is welcome and encouraged to obtain a kit at no cost during this distribution. Those attending will participate in a short training to learn how to administer the overdose antidote and then be given a kit that contains two 2 mg doses of naloxone.
Businesses wanting to keep naloxone on hand in case of emergency can send (a) representative(s) to the training.
Family Recovery Center's Project DAWN program is supported by the Columbiana County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board and the Ohio Department of Health. Clubs, associations, and other organizations who would like a speaker to present a program about Project DAWN may contact Tawnia Jenkins or Laura Martin at Family Recovery Center, 330-424-1468.
Adult coloring planned at Lepper Library

Salem Alumni scholarship applications now online
SALEM--Scholarship applications for current Salem High School seniors and graduates of Salem High School are now available online at salemohioalumni.org under the Scholarships tab.
High school students must submit their completed applications by 3 p.m. Thursday, March 15 to the Salem High School guidance office.
Post-secondary scholarships (for past graduates) are due by noon Saturday, March 31 and must be mailed or delivered to the Salem High School Alumni Association office at 330 E. State St. in Salem.
In 2017, the SHSAA awarded 112 scholarships totaling $369,000 to 95 students--62 graduating Salem High School seniors, 27 graduates who are enrolled in college, vocational or graduate school programs and six current Salem students who received band camp scholarships.

Applications for first time applicants are available now. Applications can be picked up at the Board of Education Office during regular business hours. (Note: The BOE Office will be closed Monday, Feb. 19 in observance of President's Day.)
Current open enrollment families will receive their applications in the mail.
Completed applications can be submitted on a first-come, first-serve basis to the Board of Education Office no sooner than 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20. Applications must be submitted in person, along with all copies and notarized documents.
No copying or notarizing will be done at the time of delivery.
Economic Development Committee meeting canceled
SALEM -- A meeting of the Economic Development Committee of city council that had been set for Tuesday night was canceled. Councilman Roy Paparodis, the chairman of the committee, said the meeting will be rescheduled. It was supposed to be held at the Sustainable Opportunity Development Center headquarters off of Pennsylvania Avenue for the purpose of getting to know new SOD Center executive director Julie Needs.
