Rotary Pancake Day set Sunday

SALEM — The Rotary Club’s 58th annual Pancake Day will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Salem High School cafeteria, 1200 E. Sixth St. (enter off of North Lincoln Avenue or Ninth Street). The menu offers eggs and sausage, and also all the pancakes you can eat. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children under 10. The Chinese auction will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds benefit the club.

Saxon Retirees to meet Wednesday

SALEM — Saxon Retirees plan to meet on Wednesday at the club. The social hour begins at 11:30 a.m., a catered dinner at 12:30 p.m. followed by the business session.

Southern Local to honor vets

SALINEVILLE — Local veterans will be honored during the annual Veterans Day program on Nov. 12 at Southern Local Schools. It all begins with a free breakfast for former soldiers and sailors in the cafeteria at 8:30 a.m., followed by a program in the high school gym at 9:30 a.m. Presentations include musical selections and speeches by students in all grade levels. The event is free and open to the public.

Pastors invited to information session

COLUMBIANA — All pastors in Columbiana County are invited to an information session about resources in the county at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 15 at Generation Coffee Shop on Main Street. This event is presented by the Consolation Group.

Free computer classes offered at Library

SALEM — A variety of free computer classes will be provided this month to teach adults, young adults and children, interesting and valuable computer skills. These programs are made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the State Library of Ohio which recently awarded a $22,000 technology training grant to the library.

Line dancing classes scheduled

SALEM — The Salem Community Center is offering line dancing classes from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. New and experienced line dancers are welcome. Cost is $4 for members and $5 for non-members. For more information call 330-332-5885.

SALEM — The Salem Historical Society has announced its November activities.

Nov. 5, 7, 8, 12, 14, 15, 19, 21, 26, 28, 29: Museum and Gift/Book Shop, 239 S. Lundy Ave., open, tours by appointment, 9 a.m.-noon; 330-337-8514.

Nov. 10 and 11: Veterans Day recognition, featuring the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1, 1 to 4 p.m., Freedom Hall located near corner of East Pershing Street and South Broadway Avenue.

Nov. 22: Closed Thanksgiving Day.

Nov. 29: Christmas Light tours following the 6:30 p.m. Christmas Parade and “Light-Up Salem” on the Village Green; the Quakertown Trolley will offer rides to view selected lighting of the city. These tours will begin at approximately 8,, 8:45 and 9:15 p.m. In addition, the tour will be offered in December for dates to be announced. Food distribution set in Columbiana

COLUMBIANA — The Oasis Food Ministry is holding a food distribution from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 8 and 15 at the First Christian Church, 39 Cherry St. The change in date pattern is due to accommodate the Thanksgiving holiday. Ages 60 or older may come from 10 to 11 a.m. Nov. 15.

Challenge grant for Ford Nature Center

YOUNGSTOWN — The campaign to renovate Mill Creek MetroParks Ford Nature Center received a $1 million challenge grant from the Sand Hill Foundation of Menlo Park, Calif. The Sand Hill Foundation is a private family foundation established by the late Tom Ford and Susan Ford in 1995. The $3 million campaign to renovate the 106 year old former Robinson Mansion, which houses the Ford Nature Center, has raised $1 million to date. The challenge grant offered by the Sand Hill Foundation will match new donations to the campaign up to $1 million.

Construction work on state Route 164

BEAVER TWP. – The Ohio Department of Transportation has announced that state Route 164 between I-680 and I-76/Ohio Turnpike has various lane restrictions for roadway construction. Until further notice, I-680 under Route 164 is currently reduced to one lane in each direction through late October for interchange construction. This work is part of an $11.6 million project to construct a new interchange at I-680 and Route164. This project also includes widening of Route 164 between I-680 and I-76/Ohio Turnpike and the construction of a roundabout at the Route 164 and Route 626 northern junction. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by November 2019.

Gastroenterology Center relocated

SALEM — Effective Monday, the Gastroenterology Center is relocating its Salem office to the second floor of the Salem Regional Professional Building, 2094 E. State St., Suite B. The Gastroenterology Center is the practice location of Dr. William Kolozsi; Dr. Meredythe McNally; Lorraine Cresanto, CRNP; and LeeAnn Hritz, ANP-C.

Patients with appointments at the Gastroenterology Center on or after Nov. 5 should park in the East State Street lot located across the street from Salem Regional Medical Center and enter the three-story, Salem Regional Professional Building that connects to the hospital via an elevated walkway. They will then take the lobby elevator to the second floor and turn right off the elevator and go through a set of automatic doors into the second floor hallway. The entrance to the Gastroenterology Center (Suite B) will be on the left.

The phone number for the Gastroenterology Center will remain the same, and patients wishing to schedule appointments can continue to contact the office by calling 330-337-8709.

A physician practice operated by the SCH Professional Corporation, the Gastroenterology Center provides services to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of stomach, colon and digestive health issues. In addition to its office in Salem, the practice offers a second location in the Columbiana Medical Center, 750 E. Park Ave., Columbiana. Quilt Guild to meet Tuesday

SALEM — Guests are welcome when the United Quilt Guild meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 436 E. Second St. The UnFinishedObject and Charity Quilt meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. The Quilt Show Committee plans to meet at 5 p.m. The program is titled “How to quilt your project.” Attendees are reminded to bring their project and chalk to make it.
