Vendors needed for 2018 Holiday Arts and Crafts Show
SALEM -- Vendors are still needed for the 2018 Holiday Arts and Crafts Show to be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 8 in the gymnasium at the Salem Memorial Building, 785 E. State St.
Crafters interested in being part of the festivities can call 330-332-5512 to get a spot. The cost is $25 per table, which includes an 8-foot table and two chairs. Set up will be the night of Dec. 7.
Scott Sheldon, Memorial Building manager, is overseeing this year's event and said there will be many crafts, baked goods and other items that will make great Christmas gifts. The Salem High School Class of 1969 Reunion Committee members will be on site to display raffle baskets. Tickets for the raffle baskets will be sold at $1 each or six for $5. The committee will also have baked goods and miscellaneous items for purchase. All proceeds will be earmarked for the class gift to the Salem High School Alumni Association for scholarships. The winning tickets will be drawn at the conclusion of the arts and crafts show. Winners do not need to be present to win.
Information Night is Thursday at Kent State Salem
SALEM -- Area high school students and their parents are invited to Information Night on Thursday at the Kent State Salem main campus building located at 2491 state Route 45 South. The majors fair begins at 5:30 p.m. and the information session starts at 6 p.m. Prospective students can meet faculty and staff members who will share information about specific degree programs. Those who attend and complete the required paperwork can have their individual application fee waived. During the information session, Kent State representatives will explain the admissions process, share financial aid information and provide details about scholarship opportunities. Canfield MS students hosting canned food drive
CANFIELD -- Students at Canfield Village Middle School are holding a canned food drive from Nov. 12 -30. Canned food can be dropped off at the middle school, 42 Wadsworth St. The donation will be given to Second Harvest Food Bank.
Kent State Communiversity Choir will perform
SALEM - The Kent State Communiversity Choir is presenting a free concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 to celebrate peace, patriotism and Thanksgiving.
The concert will take place in the KSU City Center auditorium, 230 N. Lincoln Ave., and will feature a medley of songs representing all branches of the U.S. military and the veterans who served, as well as songs of peace and gratitude. Between songs, local veterans will present readings from the diary of a World War II veteran.
The choir is under the direction of Mel Fucci, associate professor of music at Kent State Salem. Handicap parking and access is available at the rear of the building.
United Methodist Church hosting 'Kids for Kids' auction
DAMASCUS - The 14th annual "Kids For Kids" benefit auction begins at 4 p.m. Saturday at Damascus United Methodist Church, 300 Valley Road. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. Auction services are being donated by Kiko Auctions. Cash or checks will be accepted.
This event is being sponsored by the children of the church. More than 150 brand new quality items will be available for the adults to bid on including gift certificates, gift baskets, John Deere items, tools, holiday items, etc.
A separate children's auction with a "junior" auctioneer will be held. Parents can purchase "kids cash" in advance so that they know just how much their child can spend. The kids' auction will be in a separate area with adult supervision.
A lunch counter will also be available. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to various children's missions. Since the first auction, the children have raised more than $47,000 for missions. For more information call 330-537-3031.
Salem Public Library hosting book discussion group
SALEM -- Salem Public Library's monthly book discussion group will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 27 in the upper level reading room. Laurie Frankel's book, "This is How it Always is," will be featured. It is the story told through the perspective of Rosie Walsh-Adams, a doctor and mother of five. After having four sons, Walsh-Adams desperately wants a daughter but when her son, Claude is born, it seems that her hopes are dashed.
As Claude grows up, however, it becomes apparent that his gender is more complicated than it first appeared. He states his wish to become a girl. Lepper Library hosting classes, showing movie
LISBON -- Upcoming events will be held at the Lepper Library. One-on-one computer and smart device classes will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 19 and 26. The Card Club meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 19. The afternoon movie starts at 2 p.m. Nov. 26. It's a 1948 film starring James Stewart. Call the library for the title.
