"Annie" performances set at West Branch
BELOIT-- The West Branch Music Department is seeking West Branch staff members, alumni and community members to perform as a special adult chorus in the upcoming production of "Annie" Feb. 21 through 23.
No auditions are required of anyone, and only three rehearsals will take place before the tech week dress rehearsals. Rehearsals will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 9 and 16. If participants have a conflict during rehearsal time, it is not a problem. The music department will work those out with each individual. Leetonia BOE to meet Thursday
LEETONIA-- The Leetonia school board hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday in the board conference room. The meeting will be for an executive decision to consider the discipline, employment, dismissal, promotion, or compensation of a public employee. No action will be taken.
"Lead with Laughs!" offered in Salem
SALEM - The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation will sponsor "Lead with Laughs!" presented by motivational speaker and comedian David Horning from 5 to 6 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Salem Golf Club. Registration is at 4:30 p.m. with light appetizers, refreshments and a cash bar. Cost is $20 for chamber members and $25 for non-members. Seasonal Affective Disorder topic at library
SALEM - The Salem Public Library's Wellness Wednesday program for February will focus on Seasonal Affective Disorder from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in the Quaker Room. The guest speaker will be Dr. Carla Arlien, licensed psychologist and founder of Apex Psychological Care and Memory Center.
According to the American Psychiatric Association Seasonal Affective Disorder, also known as SAD, is a seasonal type of depression or winter depression. Those persons experiencing SAD experience mood changes and depression-like symptoms.

Career Center, STEM open house set
CANFIELD - The Mahoning County Career and Technical Center and The Valley STEM Academy will host an Open House from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 6. Parents of students, and students interested in attending MCCTC or Valley STEM are invited to visit and learn more about the opportunities at the school as well as see first hand how career tech has changed.

Look Nook plans shoe sale fundraiser
SALEM - Salem Regional Medical Center's (SRMC) Look Nook Gift Shop is sponsoring a round-the-clock shoe sale fundraiser with "Outside the Box Shoes." The sale will start at 7 p.m. Feb. 5 and run continuously through 2 p.m. Feb. 7. The event will take place in SRMC's Private Dining Room, located at the back of the cafeteria on the hospital's ground floor.
"Outside the Box Shoes" specializes in comfort footwear and carries brands such as Dansko, Klogs, New Balance, Skechers and more. Brands, styles and sizes vary per sale.
Event proceeds will support patient care at SRMC. The sale is open to the public. For information call the Look Nook at 330-332-7252.
Ostomy Support Group to meet at SRMC
SALEM - Area residents who have an ostomy, as well as those who are preparing for ostomy placement, are invited to attend a free Ostomy Support Group hosted by Salem Regional Medical Center (SRMC) from 6 to 7 p.m. Feb. 10 in SRMC's Private Dining Room, located at the back of the cafeteria on the hospital's ground floor.
SRMC's Ostomy Support Group offers education, encouragement and emotional support for people with any type of ostomy, including those with permanent or temporary urostomies; ileostomies and colostomies. Meetings also address some of the common concerns faced by people with ostomies, such as skin care; pouching; activity and nutrition. Sessions are led by SRMC'scertified wound, ostomy and continence nurse.
The Ostomy Support Group meets every other month on Monday evenings. There is no cost to participate. Family members and caregivers are welcome to attend. SALEM-- Sons of AMVETS and drill team breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday at AMVETS Post 45, 750 S. Broadway Ave. Traditional breakfast, haystacks and French toast with juice and coffee will be available for $6.
Sophia's Feet spaghetti fundraiser set
SALEM-- Saving Sophia's Feet spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held from noon to 5 p.m. March 15 at the Salem Quaker Banquet Hall, 1688 S. Lincoln Ave. Cost is $10 per ticket, $3 for children 10 years and under. There will also be a raffle and auction.

Fairfield trustees meeting canceled
FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP-- The Fairfield Township trustees have canceled their regulary scheduled meetings on Feb. 7 and 21. They will hold their meetings at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 and 27 in the township hall.
Dance planned in Deerfield Monday
DEERFIELD-- The Deerfield Historical Society's first Monday dance will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Deerfield Town Hall, 1450 state Route 14. The Deerfield House Band will entertain with music for dancing or listening pleasure. Admission is $4.
Acts of Courage Award nominations needed
The American Red Cross is seeking nominations for the 2020 Acts of Courage Award. Local residents are encouraged to nominate those who are deserving of this recognition.
As a community leader in emergency preparedness and response, the American Red Cross presents the Acts of Courage Awards to residents who acted bravely and selflessly when faced with an emergency. While putting their own well-being and personal safety on the back burner, these individuals have saved lives and turned tragedies into success stories.
To submit a nomination, individuals can call the Lake to River Chapter office at 330-392-2551. Nominations can also be made at www.redcross.org/neo.
The hero event may have happened anywhere but must have occurred between Jan. 1, 2019 and April 10, 2020. Nominees must reside or be employed in Ashtabula, Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana or Jefferson counties. Nominations must be submitted by April 10, 2020.
The 10th annual Acts of Courage event will also include a Salute to Veterans. Companies who have veteran employees are urged to contact the Red Cross to determine how their employees can be recognized at this prestigious event. The heroic actions of the nominated individuals represent the ideals and purpose of the Red Cross, which is to prepare and respond to emergencies. Those selected will be honored during a special ceremony and dinner.
