Exploring Titanic myths
PLUS Libraries (Public Libraries Uniting in Service) will present Titanic -- The Unsinkable Legend via Zoom at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22. The RMS Titanic sank in 1912 yet, even with hundreds of books written on the tragedy, many areas of inaccurate information remain. Carl Quatraro, discusses five areas of myth that persist surrounding the sinking of the great liner. Newspapers and books from 1912 will also be presented. Quatraro has been speaking to groups of all sizes since 1975 as a lecturer and teacher. He learned his speaking skills as a 17-year member of Toastmasters international. He is an avid researcher on all things Titanic and has presented his many programs at libraries throughout Ohio. Drive up to Moose for soup
The East Palestine Women of the Moose will be holding a drive-up homemade chicken noodle soup sale from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Donation is $5 a quart. Curbside pickup at the Moose, 43 W. Rebecca St.
Straubs sponsoring Banquet
SALEM-- Chuck and Carol Straub will sponsor the drive thru Banquet in Salem from 5 p.m. until the food is gone (no later than 7 p.m.) Monday at the Salem Memorial Building. Meals are limited to one per occupant in a vehicle and include stuffed chicken breast, parsley potatoes, green beans, salad, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and cookies. BCSC fish dinners start
WASHINGTONVILLE-- The Beaver Creek Sportsman Club, 14480 Washingtonville Road, will hold its annual Fish Fry from 4 to 7 p.m. each Friday, Feb. 5 through April 2. The meals include beer battered haddock and/or shrimp with fresh cut fries, coleslaw and green beans. Cost is $12 for adult fish or shrimp dinners, $7 for child fish or shrimp dinners, $17 for fish and shrimp dinners, $5 for an extra fillet with a dinner and $6 for shrimp a la carte (approximately 16 pieces). The meals are carry out only at 234-320-5334.
JCC auditions being held
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Jewish Community Center School of Theatre will hold auditions for "Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka for Kids" from 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 9 and 10 at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane. Children ages 9 to 17 are invited to participate.
Performers should prepare a 16 bar a cappella song and be prepared to read from the script. Rehearsals will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from Feb. 22 through March 23. The performance will be at 6 p.m. March 25.
The production, based on the classic children's novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, will be directed by Savannah Teter and choreographed by Hailey Gelzheiser.
