Banquet to be held Labor Day

Karen Wendling Sebo will sponsor the Labor Day drive thru Banquet in Salem from 5 p.m. until the food is gone (no later than 7 p.m.) Monday at the Salem Memorial Building. Meals are limited to one per individual in a vehicle and include sloppy joe’s, macaroni salad, baked beans, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and peaches. Cemetery program planned

Columbiana Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will host local citizen Philip Campbell who will share his work of preserving and restoring the Old Springfield Cemetery in New Middletown, Springfield Township, Mahoning County, at 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Dale Shaffer Research Library meeting room in Salem. Old Springfield is the oldest cemetery in the area and Springfield Township was originally located in Columbiana County until March 1846.

Burchfield Museum open

The childhood home of artist Charles Burchfield at 867 E. 4th St., Salem, is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. Compare current views of the neighborhood, garden, and nearby forests and swamps with reproductions of paintings to get an insight into the artist’s methods. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. For information call 330 717-0092.

Mile Branch soup sale Sept. 9

Mile Branch Grange, 495 Knox School Road, Alliance, will hold its monthly drive-thru soup sale Sept. 9, with pick up from 4 to 6 p.m. This month’s soups will be loaded potato and stuffed pepper. Cost is $7 per quart. Soup must be preordered by noon Sept. 8. To reserve soup, call 330-821-8023 and leave a name, number, type of soup and number of quarts.

Rock painting event slated

Salem Parks and Recreation and Salem Public Library will host Go Wild in the Park: Rock Painting for Kids from 8 to 89 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Waterworth Memorial Park Pavilion #9. All materials will be provided for this program that is open to the public and free of cost to attend. Registration is required at www.salem.lib.oh.us or 330-332-0042.

Open house set at St. Jude

An open house will be held for the newly remodeled St. Jude Activity Center, 180 Seventh St., Columbiana, from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 19. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 12:45 p.m. Hall rentals are now available by contacting the Parish Office at 330-482-2351.

CCRTA to meet in Lisbon

Columbiana County Retired Teachers’ Association will meet at noon Sept. 16 at the First United Methodist Church in Lisbon. A program will follow the luncheon. Programs feature interesting members of the community. Retirees can call 330-385-5560 for information.
