program on Grace Kelly
The Salem Public Library will host a program exploring the life of Grace Kelly - loving daughter, Hollywood icon, princess of Monaco - from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 18 via Zoom. The program deals with her childhood and experiences as an actress. Presented by Susan Cannavino, this presentation is a multi-sensory experience. Attendance is open to the public and free of cost. Salem native to perform
in Mount Union play
Julia Bricker from Salem will perform in the University of Mount Union Department of Performing Arts' presentation of "Beau" on April 7-10 in the Gallaher Black Box Theatre of the Giese Center for the Performing Arts. "Beau" is a student written musical that follows a 17-year-old boy who has recently stopped speaking. After being admitted to a mental health facility, he meets a cast of characters who help him explore recovery and learn to express himself. The project, created as part of the department's senior culminating experience (SCE), marks the first time a full-length student written piece has been featured as a department performance. Thursday-Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee begins at 2 p.m. Be advised Beau contains some content that individuals may find difficult to hear, including suicide, abuse and mental health. Bicycle group offering
slowpaced group rides
The Out-Spokin' Wheelmen bicycling club will conduct slow-paced group rides on Tuesday (March 29) and on April 5, 19 and 26. The rides will begin at 10 a.m. at the Kirk Road Trailhead of the MetroParks Bikeway. These events are for new riders, young and old cyclists, and those who just want to get outside and enjoy a leisurely activity. They will cover about 10 miles, round-trip, at 8-10 mph, and they are free and open to the public. No reservations are needed. There will be no ride in the rain or if the temperature is below 50 degrees. Helmets are required. The trailhead is on Kirk Road, just east of Turner Road. For information call 330-540-3154. at SOD Center in Salem
MVMC, in partnership with the Columbiana County Port Authority and Sustainable Opportunity Development (SOD) Center, is hosting a Columbiana Hiring Event Wednesday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hosted at the SOD Center at 440 Pennsylvania Ave. in Salem, job seekers ranging from recent high school graduates to career switchers are welcome to attend, learn about and apply for open positions with several Columbiana County employers in manufacturing, healthcare and technology industries. Attendees are encouraged to bring their driver's license and copies of their resume or work history. Career coaches and regional training providers will be on hand to help with career planning and preparation, and to help identify free or low-cost training programs to build job-readiness skills. Deadline approaching for CAA Winter Crisis Program
The Community Action Agency of Columbiana County (CAA) will be taking applications for the Winter Crisis Program through March 31 at the Lisbon office located at 7860 Lincole Place (rear). Appointments can be made by calling the automated scheduling system at 330-892-8880. Effective immediately until further notice, there will be no face-to-face appointments for energy assistance at this location. All applications during this time will be completed over the phone to prevent the spread of COVID-19. All documentation will need to be dropped off at the agency drop box, emailed to your intake worker, or faxed to the Community Service Department no later than 2 p.m. daily for processing.
