'Pennies for Paws' canisters
Community sites to make donations to "Pennies for Paws" are located across the county where pennies can be dropped off as part of the Columbiana County Humane Society's annual drive. Donation canisters are available at the Pitstop in Salineville, the concession stand at Dickey fields in Lisbon, Mike's Penn Ave Grille in Salem, the 730 Superette on state Route 7 just north of state Route 11 and Dogs on the Run in East Palestine. The drive ends May 10 and all donations made at a community site will go toward the home school total. Prizes will be awarded to local schools based on contribution amounts. Any business interested in helping out can do so by calling the humane society in Salem at 234-575-7177. A container and materials will be delivered.
Salem Historical Society Museum
The Salem Historical Society Museum will open for the 51st season Sunday and will be open each Sunday through Oct. 29 from 1 to 4 p.m., with the last tour beginning at 3:30 p.m. Guided tours of all the exhibits are available during these times. Members are admitted free. Admission for adults 18 and older is $6. Children ages 5 to 17 are $3. Children under 5 years are admitted free. Visitors are asked to wear a mask during their visit. The Museum has grown from a mere six rooms to over 13,000 square feet of exhibits in 20 rooms in four buildings. Artifacts related to Victorian life, entertainment, grooming, food, education, medicine, transportation, early settlers, sports, music, commerce, military and abolition are included. Guests are encouraged to come early and plan to stay at least 90 minutes. Group tours are available by appointment. The entrance and parking for museum tours is at 208 S. Broadway Ave. The society's gift shop, located on 239 S. Lundy Ave., will also be open with the hours of 1 to 3:30 p.m. For information contact the society at 330-337-8514.
Rodman teen murder mystery
Teens, ages 12-18, are invited to a Corporate Chaos murder mystery party from 3 to 5 p.m. May 11 at the Rodman Public Library in Alliance, where they will follow clues to figure out what happened to Eric Wilde, the CEO of Worldwide Prestige. Teens will play the part of one of the employees during the murder mystery program, which will feature snacks in between acts. Teens wishing to participate in the murder mystery must register at the Information Center at the Main Library where they will choose their character. For information call 330-821-2665, ext. 217.
Sebring BOE special meeting
The Sebring Local School District Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 7 a.m. Thursday in the administration offices to award the bid for the camera project.
Children's book week
The Columbiana Public Library is celebrating children's book week this week. Children in grades preschool through four can fill out an entry slip to win a prize each time they read a book.
Ham dinner in Columbiana
The Columbiana Methodist Church will host a drive thru ham dinner from 4 p.m. until sold out May 9. Cost is $10. Reservations may be made at 330-482-2382.
Chicken dinner in North Lima

EP plant sale
The Town and Country Garden Club of East Palestine will be hold its Annual Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 13 at Dog's on the Run. A variety of hanging baskets and assorted plants will be available for purchase.
