LISBON - Nancy Dicken welcomed the members and guests to the last Columbiana County Retired Teachers Association meeting of the spring. It was held at the Lisbon United Methodist Church. Dicken opened with the pledge, roll call, a reading by Helen Steiner Rice called "Ten Commandments" and offered the prayer.
After the lunch provided by the United Methodist Women, Loretta Davidson introduced the guest speakers, John and Daryl Hersh of The Ozer Ministries. Ozer Ministries was established in 1987 in East Palestine. The Hershs contract with the Columbiana County Department of Job and Family Services to advocate for domestic violence victims and are chaplains at The Tobin Center, counseling 11 to 17 year olds.
Jerry Barnes conducted the business meeting. The minutes and treasurer's reports were accepted. Members were reminded that the CCRTA Summer Fieldtrip will be held Friday, July 14 noon to 3 p.m. at The Best Western Dutch Village Inn in Columbiana. The program is entitled: "The Bee Gees - A Tribute Band." Anyone wanting to make a reservation needs to contact Dicken at 330-457-2918 ASAP.
Northeast Ohio Regional ORTA/STRA representative Carol Kinsey answered questions about legislative matters. She also announced that current teachers can receive full retirement at the completion of 34 years now – 2028.
Pat Will was the winner of the 50/50. The recipient of the free lunch at the next meeting will be Jan Stover.
Meetings will resume in September.
