SALEM -- It is all about Nature's beauty, bugs, bees, flowers and animals Saturday at the Smucker House, 271 S. Broadway Ave. Free to all ages, the event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Salem Federation of Women's Clubs welcomes area non-profits who will set up to share about their organization and have an activity for children. Represented will be Oreo, a small pony to pet and love. The event will include the Salem Humane Society, Beaver Creek Education Center, On Target Outfitters, The Ohio State University Extension with 4-H Youth development and Master Gardeners Program, Salem City Parks Bee City, Salem Presbyterian Church Preschool, Mahoning Columbiana County Bee Keepers Association, Burchfield Homestead Society and the Salem Area Garden Club.
Explore Insects through Insect Adventures 4-H Project will be presented by Aid Frye, Farmers Pride 4-H member who had his insect collection at the Ohio State Fair last year. He will share his collection and bee cycle activity as well as the knowledge he has learned thought his 4-H project. He will also be providing the youth in attendance with bee life cycle activity and make and take flowers out of tissue paper.
The Mahoning/Columbiana Bee Keepers Association will have a honey bee observation. Sally Kurjan will be displaying books about Bernie, the one-eyed dog who is afraid of bees and other things, and will show children how to draw a picture of Bernie. On Target Outfitters will show their Bow and Arrow techniques and share information about their summer camps for children.
Children can pick out a flower and make book markers. The Salem Area Garden Club will have flower pots to paint and plant a flower to take home. Snack bags and cookies will be handed out. Children can make coffee filter butter flies. There will be games. Stickers provided by Kast Iron Soda works, and carry bags by Brightside and Copeland Oaks.
