Drive-thru chicken dinner
Calvary United Methodist Church, 12062 South Ave., North Lima, will hold a drive-thru chicken dinner from 3 to 6 p.m. or sold out Aug. 10. Dinner will include a stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and a brownie for $9. Reserve dinners by calling 330-549-2588.
Train derailment support group
Ozer Ministries will be facilitating a faith-based support group for anyone still dealing with the emotional and spiritual aftermath of the train derailment. The support group will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. the second Monday of each month at the First Church of Christ, 20 W. Martin St. in East Palestine, with the first group meeting Aug. 14. Light refreshments will be served. Faith-based counseling for residents affected by the train derailment is also offered by Ozer Ministries. Healthy Living Brain & Body
Lepper Library in Lisbon will hold a workshop entitled Healthy Living Brain & Body: Tips from the latest research, presented by Mary Ertle, program director of Alzheimer's Association, Cleveland Area Chapter and Greater East Ohio Chapter, at 4 p.m. Aug. 3. Learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity, and social engagement, and use hands-on tools to help incorporate these recommendations into a plan for healthy aging. Coffee Filter Flowers
Lepper Library in Lisbon will hold its monthly Adult Craft Class - Coffee Filter Flowers at 5 and 6 p.m. Aug. 10. Make paper Hydrangea and Peony. This is an inexpensive way to have flowers year-round. All the supplies provided. Call the library to reserve a spot in one of the two classes.
Salem Historical Society Gift Shop
The Salem Historical Society Gift Shop, 239 S. Lundy Ave., is open 9 a.m. to noon Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sundays. The shop features a variety of items including books, china pieces, jewelry, note cards and books of Salem. For information call 330-337-8514.
Naloxone distribution
To kickoff Overdose Awareness Month, Mahoning County Public Health, in partnership with the Southern Park Mall, is conducting a Project DAWN Naloxone Distribution Event from 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 1 at Southern Park Mall Center Court. Anyone can receive a free Naloxone Kit at the distribution event by participating in a short training. The training includes identifying risk factors for opioid overdose, recognizing an overdose, calling emergency medical services, giving intranasal naloxone, and monitoring the person until help arrives. In nearly 40% of overdose deaths, a bystander was present and could have saved a life if they had naloxone available. A naloxone kit can also be obtained online by going to www.mahoninghealth.org/project-dawn/.
Healthcare open house
The Mahoning County Career and Technical Center's Adult Career Center will host a healthcare open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 2. No registration is needed, just enter the building through Door #1. For information call 330-729-4100.
United Quilt Guild meeting
The United Quilt Guild will meet Aug. 1 at the Presbyterian Church on Second Street in Salem. The church will be open at 10 a.m. for people to work on projects. The wool group will meet from noon to 2 p.m. and the Dear Jane group will meet from 2 to 4 p.m.. The business meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. All quilters are welcome.
Green Thum Garden Club
The Green Thum Garden Club of the Columbiana Women's Club (CWC), a civic organization operating a century house at 121 N. Main St. in historic Columbiana, is hosting a "Pruning Party at Pat's" Aug. 17. Learn master pruning techniques with expert pruner Skip McCullough of Meadowbrook Nursery during this open to the community Green Thum Garden Club event at a private residence.
