Children's Books
The Columbiana Women's Club (CWC), a civic organization operating a century house on North Main Street, will present "Exploring & Experiencing Children's Books" with retired educator Pat Tingle at noon Sept. 25, at 121 N. Main St. Delve into the world of children's literature, experiencing Pop-Ups, classics, collectibles and Caldecott Winners from Tingle's private collection during this Lunch & Learn hosted by the Columbiana Women's Club. (The Randolph Caldecott Medal is recognizes the "most distinguished American picture book for children"). Seating is limited; RSVPs required to 330-207-1470. BeerFest countdown
The countdown is on for Columbiana Craft BeerFest 2023: Clipper Sipper 2.0 Sept. 23 from 4 to 8 p.m., at Town Center in Firestone Farms, 101 Town Center Ave.On tap at Clipper Sipper 2.0 is Aeonian Brewing Co., Birdfish Brewing Co., Biker BrewHouse, Blue Monkey Brewing Co., BrewLounge Beer Company, Ill Will Brewing, Modern Methods Brewing Company, Noble Creatures Wild Ales & Lagers, Paladin Brewing, R & L Lipton - Platform and The 1547 Project. Paired with the brews are the following chews are Auntie Anne's Pretzel Truck NE Ohio, Mary's Pizza, Homestead Kitchen & Cocktails and Tra's Gourmet Sandwiches. Shop small at Cut & Toast Premium Cigars, Goodness Grows, Kalina's Restoration and Woodshop, Mary Ann's Homemade Chocolates, Moonlight Baking Co., Our Farm Skin Care, Pewter Peddler and Vavrock Woodworks. Adding to the fun is music by Leanne Binder, Whatevr and Gypsy Cowboys. Rounding out the evening's entertainment is Fat Axxes mobile axe throwing lounge, available from event opening until close at 8 p.m. with five throws for $5, 10 for $8 (closed toed shoes required). Now in its third year, Columbiana Craft BeerFest 2023: Clipper Sipper 2.0 event benefiting the Firestone Stadium Complex Restoration, a community-wide effort involving Columbiana Athletic Boosters, Columbiana Exempted Village School District, the city and private citizens. The project will be completed in phases with Columbiana Craft Beerfest: Clipper Sipper 2.0 raising funds for the first phase of the project, the removal and replacement of the home stands. Tickets are $30 in advance, $40 at the gate and include 10 tasting tickets, a 13-ounce master crafter tasting glass (while supplies last), access to live music, food trucks and vendors. Must be 21 years and older to enter. Sponsorship opportunities are available and include VIP 3 p.m. early access to BeerFest. RTIP meeting canceled
The regularly scheduled RTIP meeting Sept. 15 is canceled. The next meeting is Oct. 20.
Salem Methodist Women's Meatloaf
The deadline to place an order for the Salem Methodist Women's Meatloaf is Sept. 18. Pick up is Sept. 23. Cost is $8 for a 1-pound meatloaf or hamloaf (1-pounds loaves only available this year). To place an order call the church office at 330-337-9531.
Community breakfast
Damascus Methodist Church and Middle Sandy Presbyterian Church will host their monthly community breakfast from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Sept. 16 at the Damascus Methodist Church, 300 Valley Road. The breakfast features all-you-can-eat, made to order, pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, juice and coffee for a donation. The breakfast proceeds will benefit the upcoming 2024 Summer Mission Trip.
Underground Railroad tour

HEAP Summer Crisis Program
This is the final month for the Community Action Agency's HEAP Summer Crisis Program (SCP), which runs through Sept. 30. Appointments for the HEAP Summer Crisis may be made by calling the automated phone service at 330-892-8880. The Summer Crisis Program assists low-income households with an older household member (60 years or older) or households that can provide medical documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member's health. This year, households that have a disconnect notice, have been shut off, are trying to establish new electric service, or have PIPP default are also eligible. The HEAP Summer Crisis Program allows for a one-time electric utility payment for eligible households. This assistance must result in the continuation of electric service for at least 30 days. Clients may receive an air conditioner and/or fan(s), or central air conditioning unit repairs. The client must be at least partially responsible for their electric bill to obtain Summer Crisis assistance. Account numbers are required for utility payments. For those who rent and have the bill in the landlord's name, they may receive assistance if they provide documentation showing that they are responsible for the bill. Tenant payments for electricity must be made separately from rent payments. Eligible households can receive up to $500 in electric assistance if they are a customer of a regulated electric utility or up to $800 in electric assistance if they are a customer of unregulated electric utilities, such as cooperatives and municipal utilities. Applications for PIPP, HEAP, and Summer Crisis can be filled out online at www.energyhelp.ohio.gov. For information call 330-424-4013.
Water, wastewater assistance
This is the final month for the Ohio Department of Development and the Community Action Agency of Columbiana County, Inc. to help income-eligible Ohioans with water and wastewater assistance. The Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program provides eligible Ohioans assistance paying water and wastewater bills. The program has been extended until Sept. 30. At this time, all application interviews are being held at the agency, 7860 Lincole Place, Lisbon. Applicants must have a current water bill due, disconnected, have a disconnect notice, establishing new service, or transferring service. Clients must be a resident of Columbiana County. The bill must be in a household member's name. If the bill is in the landlord's name, a document of responsibility will be needed. Applicants will be required to provide the following documents: a list of all household members and proof of income for the last 30 days or 12 months for each member over age 18; most recent water and/or wastewater bill; proof of citizenship or legal residency; birth date and social security numbers for all household members; proof of disability, if applicable; categorically eligible documents (ex: SNAP paperwork). Columbiana Electric Dept. prizes
City of Columbiana Electric Department customers can submit a photo of Columbiana for a chance to win up to $100 and an energy efficiency kit in Efficiency Smart's Focus on Community photo contest. Through Sept. 25, electric customers are encouraged to submit an original photo of what they think best represents Columbiana. This could range from a famous building, an area event, a public park, or whatever they love about their hometown. Efficiency Smart will select finalists from submissions received throughout participating communities, and a vote will take place in October. The three finalists receiving the most votes will win the following prizes: First place, $100 and an energy efficiency kit; second place, $50 and an energy efficiency kit; third place, an energy efficiency kit. Columbiana All-Class reunion
The ninth annual Columbiana High School All-Class reunion will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Columbiana American Legion on state Route 14. Music will be by the original "S.R.O." band from the 1970s consisting of Chuck Reaggle and Gary Russell of Columbiana and Randy Strader of Salem. The band played its first job in November of 1974.
