CCRTA welcome special guest speaker

The Columbiana County Retired Teachers Association recently hosted the deputy assistant to President George W. Bush, Janet Creighton. As director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, she travelled with the president to all disaster areas. Pictured here, Creighton holds a framed display of the items received as a working passenger on Air Force One. Creighton also spoke about all the presidential pets that have lived in the White House – dogs, goats, Carolyn Kennedy’s horse and William H. Taft’s cow. (Submitted photo)

LISBON — The September meeting of the Columbiana County Retired Teachers Association was held at the Lisbon First United Methodist Church.

Nancy Dicken welcomed the members, led the pledge and took roll call. The minutes were provided by Loretta Davidson and the treasurer’s report by Rosemary Bruehler.

Janet Creighton, deputy assistant to President George W. Bush and director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, presented “Behind the Scenes at The White House.” She spoke about the six stories, 132 rooms and 35 bathrooms that compose the oldest building in Washington, D.C. Creighton highlighted the protocols expected for different events, as well as why the presidents always go on vacation in August – so workers can clean and paint while the president is away.

The 50/50 was won by Bruehler. Colleen McCoy won the free meal for the next meeting. That meeting will be held Thursday, Oct. 19 at noon at the same location.

Starting at $3.75/week.
