ALLIANCE -- Rodman Public Library will give teens, ages 12-18, the opportunity to learn how to be mindful of dangerous situations as well as the tactics to use if they find themselves in such circumstances during a two-hour self-defense and awareness seminar Sept. 19.
The free course will be taught by Wayne Burley, an area native who is the owner of C.O.B.R.A. Defense Canton. He has 36 years of experience in defensive tactics instruction and is a sixth-degree master level instructor in martial arts.
Burley, who holds a degree in education from Malone College and a Master's of Science in Fitness Management from the United States Sports Academy, has been teaching since 1984 and was inducted into the United States Kido Federation Black Belt Hall of Fame.
The seminar is free, thanks to Friends of Rodman Public Library, but space is limited and registration is required at rodmanlibrary.evanced.info/signup.
TEEN BOOK CLUB
The Teen Book Club at Rodman Public Library is regrouping following a summer hiatus.
All teens, ages 12-18, are invited to join the club, which is just for teens. The first meeting will be held Sept. 18 at 4 p.m.
Bring a favorite YA book or two to share and the group will decide what books to read moving forward during the meeting.

KIDS CRAFTING
Rodman Public Library's monthly Kids Crafting program continues at 4 p.m. Sept. 14 when children, ages 7-12, are invited to come to the Main Library to create a fall macrame wall hanging. All materials used during monthly kids crafting programs are provided for free thanks to the Friends of Rodman Public Library. Registration is required at rodmanlibrary.evanced.info/signup. HOT POTS STORYTIME
Hot Pots Storytime is back.
Two sessions will be held in September with pumpkins being the theme, including Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m. and another Sept. 23 at 11 a.m.
Children, ages 3-12, are invited to come to the Branch for a mini storytime and then proceed to Hot Pots, accompanied by their guardian, to paint tea light pumpkin lantern.
The cost is $15 per child and registration is required. The fee for the event is payable to Hot Pots upon registration at hotpotspottery.com.

POKEMON
Are you a fan of Pokemon?
Do you have some ideas for characters?
Are you a kid that's 7-12 years old?
If you answered yes to all three of those questions, Rodman Public Library is the place you need to be from 4 to 5 p.m. Sept. 21.
During that hour, kids will have the opportunity to first design a Fakemon, an original creature inspired by the Pokemon franchise, and then create a model of it out of clay.
The afternoon will be complete with Pokemon-inspired snacks and games.

LEGO LAB
Kids who like building with blocks won't want to miss Lego Lab at Rodman Public Library.
The program, intended for children ages 6-12, will debut Sept. 13 from 6 to 7 p.m.
During the part of the afternoon, kids will first create a candy factory in honor of the birthday of Roald Dahl, author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Participants will also have the opportunity to create whatever they would like using Legos provided by the library.
Led by Hayley Driver, the program is free, thanks to Friends of Rodman Public Library. Registration is required at rodmanlibrary.evanced.info/signup.

WRITERS' ALLIANCE
Writers' Alliance, a group for those who like to create with words and share their work with others, will resume meeting at Rodman Public Library this fall. All writers are welcome to the group, facilitated by John Milan, which will meet at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at RPL beginning Sept. 25. No registration is required.
