Summitville will hold its fall cleanup curbside collection Oct. 16.
Trivia Night in Alliance
The Alliance Historical Society will sponsor its third Trivia Night from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 24 at A-Town Burgers and Brews. Teams may register at alliancehistory.org/trivia-night. As it was in the first two Trivia Nights last October and March, there will be six rounds of 10 questions each with categories including general knowledge, TV theme songs, literature, geography, game show catchphrases, and of course, local history. Teams will consist of four persons and each team should register with a descriptive name and prepare for a good time. Entrance fee is $80 per team of four and includes A-Town's burger bar. Drinks will be available from the cash bar and includes a selection of craft beers, sodas, and incredible milkshakes. Other fundraising activities will include a 50-50 drawing, table and round sponsorships, and basket raffles. Prizes will be given to the winning team. Anyone who would like to become a sponsor or donate a gift card or raffle basket should email alliancehistory@yahoo.com. Table sponsorships are at three levels - regular at $100 or the silver level at $250, with gold levels at $500. Question Round sponsorships are $50.
Fall book sale
The Minerva Public Library is hosting its annual fall book sale, featuring an extensive selection of books suitable for all ages and interests. The sale will begin at 10 a.m. Oct. 14 and will run through Oct. 21. The sale is open during regular library hours, and new items are added daily. The last day of the sale, Oct. 21, will be the $1 a bag sale. Books are 25 cents each and the also be a variety of DVDs, music CDs, VHS tapes, and audiobooks available for purchase, as well as chairs that need repair and other merchandise for sale. All proceeds go toward purchasing new library materials and supporting library programs.
Community Safety Day
The City of Columbiana will have its 18th annual Community Safety Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Station 1 on South Vine Street, which will be closed for the event. It will feature a department open house, equipment demonstrations, fire truck exhibits and fire safety information. The Columbiana EMS, Police and Scout Explorers will also have information and exhibits. Free food, desserts and refreshments will be served along with a display of safety posters recently completed by the students of Joshua Dixon Elementary School.
Drive-thru ice cream sale
Lisbon Grange will be hosting the fall drive-thru Quart Ice Cream Sale Saturday at the grange 3 miles west of Lisbon on U.S. Route 30. Time of sale is 2 to 4 p.m. or until sold out. Ice cream flavors available will be apple, pumpkin and vanilla. Cost is $10 per quart.
Beaver Creek Church Camp
Beaver Creek Church Camp will hold its 2nd annual soup sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 20 at Long's Run Trinity Presbyterian Church (lower level/basement), 15851 Longs Church Road, Calcutta. Soup varieties include chicken noodle, sausage tortellini, and tomato basil for $8 a quart. There will also be loaves of homemade bread for $4. Proceeds will go toward future scholarships for campers to attend Beaver Creek Church Camp who need financial assistance. Free delivery is available for local businesses. Pre-orders are encouraged and delivery requests must be submitted by Oct. 15 by contacting Brittany Ingledue at 330-708-9661.
Crestview honors military
Crestview Local Schools will honor any military member (active or retired) and first responders at 6:40 p.m. Friday prior to the start of the varsity football game. Show ID at the gate for free admittance to the game at Crestview Stadium against Champion High School. Game starts at 7 p.m. Those planning to attend are asked to come to the track area near the concession stand at 6:30 p.m. For information call the school at 330-482-4744 for the athletic director office.
Drive thru Banquet
Youth in Philanthropy will sponsor the dine in or drive thru Banquet in Salem from 5 p.m. until to food is gone Monday at the Salem Memorial Building. The menu will include stuffed chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and cookies. Dine in will park in the designated area and proceed to the front door. Drive thru will line up in the lot behind the building; one meal per individuals in the vehicle. No parking in the library lot.
