Salem schools levy forum
The Salem City Schools Levy Committee will host an informational forum at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 in the high school auditorium. Dennis Niederhiser will serve as master of ceremonies. Program speakers will include schools Superintendent Sean Kirkland, schools Treasurer Michael Douglas and an Ohio Facilities Construction Commission representative. There will also be a panel discussion by community advocates and a question and answer session. Questions for the event may be sent to info@voteforsalem.com.
Salem Bible Methodist revival
Salem Bible Methodist Church, 1647 N. Ellsworth Ave., will host its Fall 2023 Revival Oct. 18 through 22, featuring Evangelist Rev. Stephen Smith. Services will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 through 21, and 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Oct. 22. For information call Pastor David W. Crosley at 812-675-1549.
SCT Treasure Seekers Sale
Salem Community Theatre, 490 E. State St., will host a Treasure Seekers Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday on the third floor (stairs are required). Fill a bag for $10; bags provided.
SHSAA Quakerfest open house
The Salem High School Alumni Association will sponsor a Quakerfest Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Alumni and friends are invited to visit the office to see the memorabilia displays that include the SHSAA Art Wall and the new SHS jewelry display counter donated by the SHS Class of 1971. Visitors will receive free Quaker Sam magnets and Quaker Sam prints, and they can register to win a Quaker Sam metal flag donated by Donald Farmer from the SHS Class of 1975. Light refreshments will be served.
Banquet in Salem
Darin Odey will sponsor the dine in or drive thru Banquet in Salem from 5 p.m. until the food is gone Monday at the Salem Memorial Building. The menu will include fried chicken, potatoes, corn, cole slaw and cookies. Dine in will park in the designated parking area and proceed to the front entrance. Drive thru will line up in the lot behind the building; one meal per individuals in the vehicle. No parking in the library lot. East Palestine Band Night
The East Palestine Marching Band will host its annual Band Night at 6 p.m. Saturday at Reid Memorial Stadium. EPHS will host 10 bands for a night of fun and entertainment. Tickets will be $7 at the gate with concessions, a basket raffle, T-shirt sales and the Great Pumpkin Palooza competition.
Wood-fired chicken dinner
New Garden Methodist Church, 7165 state Route 9, Hanoverton, will host a wood-fired chicken dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (or sold out) Oct. 22. The dinner includes a half chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, roll with butter and homemade brownie for $15.
JOC Santa's Special Night
The Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau (CATB) and the Joy of Christmas 2023 Committee will host Santa's Special Night, a by-appointment-only evening for individuals living with special needs, Dec. 6 at Harvey S. Firestone Recreational Park, 298 E. Park Ave. The event is closed to public. A private, all-inclusive Joy of Christmas event, Santa's Special Night provides a welcoming environment for people with special needs and their families, including a visit with Santa and magical drive through more than one million lights. Space is limited; pre-registration is required for this evening that includes access to the Joy of Christmas holiday drive-thru light display and activities in the Ice Castle. East Palestine Apple Butter Day
The East Palestine Area Historical Society hold its annual Apple Butter Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Log Cabin, 555 Bacon Ave. This has been the main fundraiser for the historical society for over 40 years and the proceeds are used to maintain the log cabin. The process begins with the peeling of the apples at 8 a.m. Thursday at the Community Center in the park. Anyone wishing to volunteer to help peel the apples would be greatly appreciated. On Friday and Saturday, apple butter will be cooked in large 30 gallon copper kettles on the premises for those wanting to watch and perhaps participate in the stirring process. Apple butter (sugar and non-sugar) will also be available for sale on Saturday for $6 a pint. Membership to the historical society is $7 per member or $10 per family per year. Membership applications will be available at Apple Butter Day.
Annual trappers workshop

East Palestine HS Veterans Day
On Friday, Nov. 10, at 9 a.m., East Palestine High School is sponsoring a breakfast for veterans and their families at the First Church of Christ. There will be a parade to follow at 10:30 a.m., weather permitting. Veterans and their families are welcome to participate in the parade from the comfort of their vehicles. The parade will begin at the First Church of Christ, continue to Market Street then onto West Grant Street, and then finish at the East Palestine school campus where students from all grades will be waiting outside to cheer on the veterans and thank them for their service. After the parade is over, all students will return inside to watch a special student-created video presentation that was prepared to honor veterans.
