Hanover Twp. Veterans Day

All veterans and their family members are invited to attend the third annual veterans program at the Hanover Township Historical Society museum, 9939 state Route 9, Hanoverton, at 11 a.m. Nov. 4. Retired Lt. Col. John Tucker will be the featured speaker, UHS choir members will be singing patriotic songs, Troop 3 of Salem will fold veteran Lee Cole's flag and Dante DiGiacomo will offer prayers. Following the program there will be refreshments and fellowship at the museum.

Minerva Veterans Day

Minerva will host "An Afternoon on the Battlefield: Honoring All Who Served," a Veterans Day event at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Roxy Theatre. All veterans and community members are encouraged to attend. Doors will open at 1 p.m. and the event will feature music from the World War II era, recognition of all veterans, light refreshments and a screening of "Memoirs of WWII: Bill Pilati," a short film by Joshua and Heather Scott. Pilati, a Minerva resident and WWII veteran, served in the U.S. Army during the Battle of the Bulge. Following the film, there will be a question-and-answer period with WWII veterans and the Scotts. Admission is free, and the event will be followed by a social time.

MCCTC 2024-2025 applications

The Mahoning County Career and Technical Center and Valley STEM + ME2 Academy will begin accepting applications for the 2024-2025 school year today. Incoming 11th grade students interested in applying to MCCTC and incoming 9th grade students interested in applying to Valley STEM can apply on the schools' website. MCCTC has 20 programs to choose from and just about anything a student needs to get a head start. Many programs are geared to those students that are interested in getting a job right out of high school, while other programs are focused on getting students prepared to go to college. The Valley STEM Academy prepares students with skills necessary to compete in the global economy while nurturing the characteristics of discovery, invention, application, and entrepreneurship. CWC Poinsettia Sale

The Columbiana Women's Club (CWC), a civic organization operating a century house on North Main Street in historic Columbiana, is holding its 2023 Poinsettia Sale now through Nov. 10. Cost is $13 per 6-inch plant; color options include pink, red or white. Orders are due by 3 p.m. Nov. 10. Plants will be available for pick-up Nov. 17 at the Club House (details provided at time of order). Payment is due at pick-up; cash and checks only. Businesses, religious organizations, civic clubs, restaurants, etc., can order in bulk (delivery available for bulk purchases within Columbiana). To place a poinsettia order, call 330-482-3198.

Sebring school board meeting

Sebring Local Schools Board of Education will hold its regular board meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 20 in the McKinley High School cafeteria. The meeting will include a presentation on IDEA B funds and will be open for public comment.

Lisbon Alzheimer program

Lepper Library in Lisbon will host Understanding Alzheimer's and Dementia presented by Laura Cosentino of the Alzheimer's Association, Cleveland Area Chapter and Greater East Ohio Chapter at 4 p.m. Nov. 2. Learn about the impact of Alzheimer's, the difference between Alzheimer's and dementia, stages and risk factors, current research, and treatments available for symptoms, and Alzheimer's Association resources.

Lepper Library ukulele classes

Ukulele Classes by Gloria Siegfried will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Lepper Library in Lisbon. Siegfried will teach beginners or help veterans brush up on ukulele playing. With only four strings, it is easy to learn and fun to play. Siegfried guarantees that participants will be able to play a song after just one lesson. The library has ukuleles available for check out. Registrations are required. Ukulele Class is made possible in part by state tax dollars allocated by the Ohio Legislature to the Ohio Arts Council (OAC). The OAC is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally, and economically.

Social Concerns Christmas help

Social Concerns sign up for Christmas assistance will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon and 5 to 6 p.m. Nov. 6 at Centenary Methodist Church in East Palestine. Proof of residence is required.
