Warning signs of Alzheimers program
The Alzheimer's Association will present "10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's" at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13 in the Salem Public Library's Quaker Room. Alzheimer's and other dementias cause memory, thinking, and behavior problems that interfere with daily living. Learn how to recognize common signs of the disease along with how to approach someone about memory concerns and the importance of early detection. Possible tests and assessments for the diagnostic process, as well as the benefits of a diagnosis and Alzheimer's Association resources will be discussed, as well. This program is open to all and free of cost. Raptor Hallow animal survival program
Wildlife experts at Raptor Hallow in Alliance will talk about how animals adapt to living amongst each other and the techniques they use to survive in the wild when presenting its Predator vs. Prey animal show during a Go Wild in the Park program from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Pavilion #9 in Waterworth Memorial Park (use the East School Street entrance). Four or five live animal ambassadors will be joining the presenters. The Go Wild in the Park program, co-sponsored by the Salem Public Library and Salem Parks and Recreation, is free and open to the public. TQGIBT meeting
That Quilt Group I Belong To (TQGIBT for short) will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 21 in the Rotary Building at Fair Park on Oak Street in Canfield. Members should return their completed Christmas stockings at the November meeting so that they can be delivered to Salvation Army. Members are also reminded to make their reservation by Dec. 1 for the group's Christmas dinner Dec. 19. Two new "Quilter's Playtime" blocks will be demonstrated as part of this month's program. Roxy Theatre benefit show
The Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce's Roxy Theatre will host a benefit performance by DJ's Rock & Roll Big Band Nov. 18, with all proceeds supporting continuing improvements at the theater. The $10 ticket price includes snacks and desserts, and there will be a cash bar, basket raffle, and 50/50 raffle. Doors open at 6 p.m. and music begins at 7 p.m. DJ's Rock & Roll Big Band is a 15-piece band, featuring a full horn section, saxophones, guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and vocals, and plays tunes from the 50s to the 70s. Proceeds from the event will go toward renovations at the Roxy. Tickets are available in advance from the Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce office, 203 N. Surviving the Holdays Session of GriefShare
Lake Mount Church of Christ, 6290 state Route 7, New Waterford, is hosting a Surviving the Holidays Session of GriefShare from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. This is a two-hour seminar and support group designed to help people through the holidays after losing a loved one. This group is led by caring people who have experienced grief and want to help others through their difficult days ahead. Cost of the program is $10 to cover workbook and materials.
