Salem decorating contest
The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee is sponsoring a 2023 Holiday Decorating Contest for Salem businesses. The committee will present an award for the best holiday window display. The public is asked to vote for one of the businesses which confirmed their participation with the chamber at https://forms.gle/zUuLw8c7c2U5xJS27. Limit one vote per person. Votes will only be accepted from Nov. 29 through Dec. 6.
Salem Christmas light tours
The Salem Historical Society is offering Christmas Light Tours this holiday season. The Quakertown Trolley will drive by selected sites to view lighting across the city. The tour lasts approximately one hour. Tours are scheduled for Dec. 2 at 8:30 p.m., Dec. 9 at 8:30 p.m., and Dec. 21, 22 and 23 at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Tours will embark from 239 S. Lundy Ave. The cost is $6 for adults, $4 for ages 3 years to 17 years old and children under 3 are free. Trips with less than 15 people will be canceled. Reservations may be made at 330-337-8514. Leave a message with name, phone number and number in party; the call will be returned to confirm reservation. Walk-ups are welcomed but reservations have priority.
Live nativity in Hanoverton
The Sunday School of the Bethesda and Hanoverton Presbyterian Churches is having a live nativity at Hanoverton from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 20 and 21. For information contact the church 330-223-1094.
Christmas on 7th Street
St. Jude Women's Guild will present Christmas on 7th Street from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 9 at the St. Jude Catholic Church. The event will feature a cookie walk, Christmas gift market, children's crafts, live petting zoo and visit and photo with Santa. Live reindeer will be on site from 9 to 10 a.m. There will also be a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon for $6 per person (free for children 5 years and under), as well as a Christmas Tree raffle at 1 p.m.
Angels for Animals holiday sale
Angels for Animals is gearing up for their 2023 Annual Antique, Collectibles & Holiday Sale. Items are being collected now through Nov. 28, Tuesday through Friday, noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For larger items contact Diane at 330-502-5352. Early Birds can shop on Friday, Dec.. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. for a donation of $5. The sale continues on Saturday Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 3, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All donors and shoppers can find the Annual Sale in Andrews Hall, located at Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road.
East Palestine Snowflake Festival
The East Palestine 2023 Annual Snowflake Festival is scheduled for Dec. 2, featuring a variety of activities all day for family and friends to enjoy. Events slated for the Village Park Community Center include Breakfast with Santa from 9 to 11 a.m., featuring pancakes and sausage, and Cookies with Santa from noon to 2 p.m. Other festivities include Santa's Workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the elementary school gym, a holiday large scale train display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the First Church of Christ gym, the Snowflake Trail and scavenger hunt from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring participating businesses, organizations and places of interest with a scavenger list (prizes awarded), a Gingerbread Contest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the East Palestine Library, an open house and basket raffle from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Ozer Ministries, horse drawn trolley rides from noon to 4 p.m.. community caroling at 6 p.m., the Christmas parade - Old Country Christmas - at 7 p.m. and the kid's station downtown and Christmas Tree Lane at 31 N. Market St. all day. Restaurants and local businesses will also be open for holiday shopping. Information will be available at Snowflake Headquarters, 85 N. Market St., the day of the event. The Snowflake Festival is sponsored by the East Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce.
