COLUMBIANA - Shortly after announcing the news that they would have to close their doors for emergency renovations to their 9,000-square-foot facility, The Way Station put out a call for aid from the community and their partners within it. They have announced a Capital Campaign to raise the $250,000 dollars needed to make the emergency repairs so that they can reopen as soon as possible in order to continue to serve individuals and families in need.
This week the Columbiana Community Foundation made a lead gift of $25,000 toward the floor project.
"This is such a generous donation from a generous organization that has helped us so much over the years, enabling us to always stay focused on our mission. With this donation, we can begin to move away from our crisis and toward being able to help and support, in full capacity, those individuals and families in our communities who are experiencing their own," said Way Station Executive Director Chaney Nezbeth.
The Way Station also expressed its appreciation for The First Christian Church of Columbiana for "welcoming us into their church and offering us a space in which we can continue to serve our community," stated Nezbeth. The organization is temporarily utilizing the fellowship hall, located at 39 Cherry St. in Columbiana while undergoing the emergency renovations. They will operate a small shop offering clothing, outdoor winter apparel and Christmas decor. They will also continue to offer assistance to the community from this location at a limited capacity. The Way Station will be open at this location Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana has opened its doors on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to host the weekly meetings for Freedom of Addiction until they can resume their meetings at The Way Station in January.
The Upper Room Fellowship of Columbiana has offered The Way Station space for their monthly food distribution for those in need. The November distribution will be held Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 9 to 11 a.m. and will be a pre-boxed drive-thru distribution. The Way Station is currently the only food pantry in Columbiana, compounding the need to make these repairs to their facility so that they can get back to operating at max capacity in order to serve as many as possible.
