Winona Ruritan Club honors veterans

WINONA - The Winona Ruritan Club held its Veterans Appreciation Dinner Nov. 14 at the Winona Friends Church. President Rob Doyle Jr. called the meeting to order and led the group in singing "America." Vice President Homer Althouse gave the invocation.
Caterer Chris Phyllis served a dinner featuring rolled stuffed pork loin, tossed salad, parsley buttered potatoes, green beans, rolls and butter, iced tea, water, coffee and cheese cake.
Secretary Lee Stamp called the roll of members, with 22 being present and nine guests. Stamp then read the minutes of the November board of directors meeting, which were approved as read. Treasurer Bob Doyle Sr. gave his November financial report, which was also approved as read.
Only one member was born in November - Rob Donaldson - and the group sang "Happy Birthday" to him.
The club agreed to pay for the wood and vinyl siding for its storage shed and the semi-annual trailer payment.
Doyle Jr. announced that the clubs' next gun raffle in March will be a "Henry Made in America" .44 magnum Big Loop rifle. Only 100 tickets will be sold.
The club's next meeting will be held Dec. 12 at the Winona Friends Church. Hor d'ourves will start at 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. Cost is $18 per person. Entertainment will be the Michael Newman Singers.
Entertainment is being sought for the Father-Son dinner Feb. 27 and Father-Daughter dinner April 23.
Doyle Jr. introduced the club's two newest members, Phil Winn and Dean Sidwell.
Doyle Jr. asked each military veteran to share their story of service, with five members and four guest who served. Each were thanked for their service.
Member Donovan Winn expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their thoughts and prayers during his recent illness and his continuing recovery. He wanted to make sure that everyone is fully aware that each day is precious and that "tomorrow is not promised" to anyone.
Doyle Jr. ended the meeting by asking everyone to stand and pledge allegiance to American flag.
