WINONA - The Winona Ruritan Club met Oct. 24 at the Winona Friends Church. President Rob Doyle Jr. called the meeting to order and led the group in singing of "America." Vice President Homer Althouse gave the invocation.
Caterer Chris Phillis served a meal of mashed potatoes, homemade noodles mixed with chicken in gravy, sweet corn, bread and butter, and her own creation of pumpkin ice cream sprinkled with roasted walnuts, coffee, water and lemonade.
Secretary Lee Stamp called the roll of members, with 17 being present, as well as two guests - Zone 4 Governor Pat MacAleese and prospective member Phil Winn. Stamp then read the minutes of the September meeting and the October Board of Directors meeting. The club also received a Thank You card from Kadence Hood, showman of showman in beef feeder 4-H and from the club's donation to the Goshen-Butler Community Foundation.
Treasurer Bob Doyle Sr. gave the September financial report. He also gave a preliminary report on the club's pancake and sausage breakfast, with deposits of $6,363 and expenses totaling $2,453.20, although the club has not yet paid for seven hogs yet.
All 100 tickets for the fall gun raffle for a Henry Big Boy Made in America .45 Long Colt rifle were sold. MacAleese pulled the winning stub belonging to Doug Covert.
Some discussion was held regarding the recent breakfast, such as serving only to 11 a.m., more help waiting on tables, the mix of sows and fat hogs, change control knob on pancake grill, etc.
Thom Ewing made a motion to donate $300 each to the Friends church and the Hicks & Hayseeds 4-H Club for use of th e facility and the help from the 4-H.
MacAleese thanked the club for welcoming him. He noted he and his wife attended the pancake breakfast and purchased sausage to take home.
Phil Winn provided an update on the health of his father, longtime member Donovan Winn, thanking everyone for their prayers and reporting his father was coming along very well and was at home.
Doyle Jr. reported the Ohio District Fall Convention is Nov. 18 at the Paradise Church in Louisville and all members are invited to attend. He also encouraged all members to patronize Eichler's Gas& Propane on state Route 45 and Hull's Super Duper Market in New Garden because of their donations to the club's breakfasts.
Stamp reminded members the club's meetings in November and December will be early in the month due to the holidays - Nov. 14 and Dec. 12.
