3 min read

SALEM -- Area residents are invited to support Salem Regional Medical Center (SRMC) in continuing its legacy of advancing healthcare with a gift to the SRMC Foundation's 2023 Annual Appeal, which will benefit patients through a new, state-of-the-art 3T MRI scanner in Columbiana.

"Each year, thousands of patients rely on MRI imaging to detect and treat diseases in their earliest and most treatable stages," said Amy Reed, SRMC Foundation director. "Financial support of our hospital's newest 3T Open MRI in Columbiana will help ensure that area residents facing cancer and other conditions have local access to this advanced, life-saving technology."

Supporting State-Of-The-Art Care

Through contributions to the appeal, patients can receive leading-edge diagnostic testing with the fastest, most detailed magnetic resonance imaging of the head, spine, joints, body, breasts, prostate and liver.

"SRMC has a long-standing reputation for offering the latest breakthroughs in medical imaging, including our state-of-the-art 3T MRI technology, to help diagnose and treat diseases in their earliest stages," said Peter Apicella, M.D., chairman of SRMC's Department of Medical Imaging.

The 3T MRI scanner will cost approximately $1.625 million and be located inside The Advanced Radiology Center (ARC) on the first floor of SRMC's new, 76,600-square-foot Surgery and Outpatient Pavilion at Firestone Farms TownCenter in Columbiana.

Benefits of 3T Open MRI

-- Twice the strength of other area 1.5T MRI scanners

-- Twice the detail for stunning image quality

-- Latest technology for newest imaging techniques throughout the body

-- Largest 3T Open MRI with 86-inch opening for claustrophobics and patients up to 550 pounds

-- Only area MRI with advanced metal imaging for patients with implants

Advancing Imaging Locally

In addition to 3T Open MRI, the ARC at Firestone Farms will offer many of the latest advances in specialized medical imaging care when it opens in early 2024, and give local patients more convenient access to these high-quality services at a lower cost.

"Our team of highly-trained radiologists and medical imaging staff are well-known among healthcare industry leaders for the use of innovative technologies; and our goal is to continue to provide our patients the best opportunity for positive outcomes," Reed added.

Services available at The Advanced Radiology Center in Columbiana will include 3T Open MRI, CT scans, 3D Mammograms, Ultrasounds, DEXA scans and digital x-rays.
