SALEM - The Salem Community Theatre is announcing its season lineup for the 2024-2025 season, marking the 48th year of providing live theatre for the community. After a period of being shut down during the Covid pandemic, the theatre sprung back to life in 2021 with "A Christmas Carol," the first show to take the stage upon reopening. The theatre has not looked backed since. Thanks in part to hard work, generous show sponsors and donors, and loyal audience members, the theatre finds itself with stability it has not seen it more than 25 years.
• Legally Blonde-The Musical
Sept. 12-15
Based on the novel "Legally Blonde" by Amanda Brown and the 2001 film of the same name, this funny and captivating show tells the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner. She discovers how her knowledge of the law can help others, and she successfully defends exercise queen Brooke Wyndham in a murder trial. Throughout the show, very few characters have faith in Elle, but she manages to surprise them when she defies expectations while staying true to herself.

An Agatha Christie classic, the story centers around Clarissa, the wife of a diplomat who is adept at spinning tales of adventure but when a murder takes place in her drawing room she finds live drama much harder to cope with. Desperate to dispose of the body before her husband arrives with an important politician, she enlists the help of her guests. Hilarity ensues when they are interrupted by the arrival of wry detective, Inspector Lord. This production is a unique blend of suspense and humor. There is tension and laughter in equal parts in an intricate plot of murder, police, drug addicts, invisible ink, hidden doorways and secret drawers.

This SCT holiday tradition recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. In the process, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.

Trying to forget his marital problems, dull and doleful Charlie Baker takes a fishing-lodge holiday in the Deep South of America, and to avoid being pestered by the locals pretends that he is a foreigner who speaks no English. Soon, escapades abound happen in this hysterical comedy written by Larry Shue.
• The Lion King Jr.
May 8-11
The theatre brings the African savanna to life on our very own stage with Simba, Rafiki and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle and back again in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale. The Lion King Jr. features classic songs from the Broadway musical and animated feature film, including "I Just Can't Wait to Be King," "He Lives in You," and "Hakuna Matata."

July 10-13
The theatre closes out its 2024-2025 season with the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic "Cinderella." Based upon the classic fairy tale, Rodgers and Hammerstein's adaptation brings new life to the story of a young woman forced into servitude who dreams of - and achieves - a better life. Cinderella features some of Rodgers and Hammerstein's most beloved songs, including "In My Own Little Corner," "Impossible," and "Ten Minutes Ago." Rodgers and Hammerstein's enchanting adaptation of this timeless fairytale, Cinderella was their only musical originally composed for television. When the television program, starring Julie Andrews as Cinderella, first aired in 1957, it was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium at that time. Since then, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella has continued to charm audiences in productions on stage and on television.
