CANFIELD -- The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown will mark Catholic Sisters Week, annually March 8-14, with a series of social media posts highlighting their Sisters at ministry.

"We want to show we're vibrant, happy people, living the Gospel," said Sister Norma Raupple, who heads the Sisters' Associate and Young Adult Outreach programs. "Through our ministries, we show love to the entire human family as Jesus did."

The event was created the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation in 2013 to honor the women who give their lives in service to others. March is also Women's History Month.

Catholic Sisters Week not only celebrates the invaluable contributions of women religious to U.S. society now and in the past, it seeks to inspire young women to embrace vowed life in the future.

The Ursuline Sisters are celebrating 150 years of ministry in the Mahoning Valley this year. The Sisters are marking the milestone in a variety of ways, including an exhibit at the Tyler History Center, Youngstown, and with the book The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown: Serving the Mahoning Valley Since 1874, written by Thomas G. Welsh with a foreword by Ed O'Neill.

"One of the strongest characteristics of the Ursulines of Youngstown is our capacity to build and nurture networks of relationships," said Sister Mary McCormick, general superior. "Reflecting on our history helps us recognize the ways God has blessed us with the fullness of life. Our planning convinces us of a future of hope."

In addition to founding Ursuline High School, teaching at Catholic schools and working in parishes and hospitals across the Diocese of Youngstown, the Ursuline Sisters are known for such major ministries as Beatitude House, the HIV/AIDS Ministry and Ursuline Sisters Senior Living.

The public is encouraged to celebrate Catholic Sisters Week by praying for women religious, writing notes to Sisters to recognize their positive influence and sharing stories of Sisters' accomplishments with others.
