SALEM — The Salem Regional Medical Center (SRMC) Foundation has announced that radiologists Drs. Salvatore and Peter Apicella and the late Dr. Frank Apicella have made a significant donation in support of the new SRMC Surgery & Outpatient Pavilion at Firestone Farms TownCenter in Columbiana.

Through their generous gift, the Apicellas secured the naming rights to the Medical Imaging Staff Lounge, which is located in the Advanced Radiology Center (ARC Medical Imaging) on the Pavilion’s ground floor.

The Apicella physicians have been instrumental in expanding medical imaging services at SRMC over the past six decades, from x-rays and fluoroscopy to now include 3D mammography; high-resolution ultrasound; nuclear medicine; 3D CT; 3T MRI; high-definition PET/CT; advanced biopsy and intervention procedures; and the latest in radiation therapy.

A member of SRMC’s medical staff for 30 years, Dr. Peter Apicella is continuing the legacy of his father, the late Dr. Frank Apicella, and uncle, Dr. Salvatore Apicella, to provide quality diagnostic imaging to area patients. He currently serves as SRMC’s Chief Radiologist, as well as the Medical Director of ARC Medical Imaging in Columbiana and Canfield.

“We’re proud to dedicate the lounge to the medical imaging staff of the new SRMC Surgery and Outpatient Pavilion and support this new facility, which brings state-of-the-art care to the community,” he said.

His wife, Sherri, also donated a variety of framed personal photos that are displayed throughout ARC Medical Imaging at the Pavilion. She took the photos to capture the beauty and unique landscapes of places they’ve visited.

“Peter and I share a passion for travel and photography,” Sherri said. “I’m happy to provide these photos to help uplift and bring comfort to patients and their families as they await care at the new imaging center.”

“The Apicellas’ contributions have had a lasting impact on patient care at Salem Regional Medical Center,” added Amy Reed, Director of the SRMC Foundation. “We’re greatly appreciative for their continued support, which has helped ensure that local residents have access to the latest advances in medical imaging technology.”

SRMC Surgery & Outpatient Pavilion

The SRMC Surgery & Outpatient Pavilion is one of the area’s largest medical facilities and offers patients a convenient and lower cost alternative to hospital-based outpatient care; while delivering the same high levels of quality, safety and advanced technologies.

Since the facility’s ribbon cutting in March, the Pavilion’s services have been launching in phases. Those that are now open include ARC Medical Imaging, SRMC Medical Group physician offices, SRMC Immediate Care and the Firestone Infusion Center. The Firestone Surgery Center is tentatively planned to open in July.

The Pavilion is located at 400 Town Center Ave. in Columbiana at Firestone Farms. For more information, visit www.srmc-pavilion.com.
