United Quilt Guild
The United Quilt Guild will meet Oct. 1 at the First Presbyterian Church on Second Street, Salem, at 6:30 p.m. The church will open at 1 p.m. for those wanting to work on projects. The program will be using the guild's Acuquilt cutter. Bring yours if you like and/or fabric to play around with the cutter. Quilters are welcome.
Afternoon at the Museum
The public is welcome to attend the Springfield Township Historical Society's (STHS) seventh "Afternoon at the Museum" program of the 2024 season on Sunday, Oct. 6. Ken Conklin, president and curator of the Upton House Museum in Warren, will discuss saving the Upton House from demolition and its importance as a National Historic Landmark. Harriet Taylor Upton was a leader in the women's suffrage movement in the 1800s and 1900s, working to gain women the right to vote. Under Conklin's mobilization and with the help of many people, her house was renovated and opened as a museum in 1989 and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1992. The STHS museum opens at 2 p.m. for this program and there is no admission fee. All are welcome. STHS museum is located at 14188 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road (state Route 170), Petersburg. Adult Craft Class
Lepper Library will host an Adult Craft Class from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 10. The craft will be an indoor/outdoor wreath using four different colors of plastic tablecloths. All supplies will be provided free of charge for these classes. Sign ups are now underway.
Habitat for Humanity event
Join Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley for a day of teamwork and remembrance. The organization is hosting an event in Salem to get to know veterans and the military community. The day will be a classic Habitat day on the worksite to help reconnect with the military community of the Valley in hopes of building a home for a veteran in the future. Town and Country Garden Club
EAST PALESTINE -- President Darlene Exposito welcomed the 20 members present to the September meeting of The Town and Country Garden Club. Diana Holzer was invited to say a blessing before snack, which was provided by Bev Leake, Bonnie Davis and Kathy Byard. After the snack, the meeting was called to order, and members then stood for the Pledge.
The Exposito went over her notes, along with asking Davis to introduce her guest, and newest member. Minutes were presented, Treasurer's report given and both approved. Corresponding Secretary Aubrin Strohecker reported she sent four birthday cards and one sympathy card. Committee reports were then given by Civic, Ways/Means, Yard of the Month, Publicity, and Home Tours. This year the Home Tour theme is "Christmas in the Village" and will be Nov. 8 and 9. Watch for more information starting in October.
Under Old Business, discussion on upcoming events planned, collected gift cards, etc. for a wreath the Garden Club donated to a fund raiser where proceeds went to Caring Hands Food Ministry.
Under New Business, acknowledged passing of a former member, the October outing, and reminder given to the Nominating Committee. Members also discussed, voted on and approved the purchase of the largest paver, with the club's name engraved on it, from the East Palestine Library's fundraiser for their walkway to the gazebo. Laura Garvin and Michelle Telischak of the Horticulture Committee then did an informative presentation on Mums. Afterwards, Davis did a program on cake decorating.
The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Oct. 14 at the First Church of Christ. New members are always welcome!
