LISBON — The Stage Left Players are breathing new life into a classic comedy during a two-week run that brings the musical comedy “9 to 5” to the Trinity Playhouse stage.
The musical features music by country icon Dolly Parton is based on the 1980 American comedy film that starred Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. The Stage Left production is directed by executive director Kandace Cleland with Jodine Pilmer as music director, and “over 20 stage veterans and newcomers as they sing and dance their way through 18 musical and production numbers.”
Cleland calls “9 to 5” a story of friendship and revenge set in the 1970s workplace.
“It is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic,” she said. “Great songs by the one and only Dolly Parton provide for fast-paced comedy and high energy production numbers. This is a perfect summertime musical treat, and we are thrilled to close out our theater season with this award-winning musical comedy.”
The Stage Left Players take the stage at 7 p.m. this Friday and Saturday with a matinee set for Sunday at 2 p.m. for the first of back-to-back weekends.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for students and seniors and can be purchased at stageleftplayers.org. The Trinity Playhouse is located at 234 E. Lincoln Way in Lisbon. There is plenty of free parking and the theater is handicap accessible.
