Portion of SR 14 to close in western Goshen Twp.
Beginning Monday, July 28, state Route 14 between Smith Goshen and West Calla roads will be closed through late August. The detour will be state Route 14 to U.S. Route 224 to state Route 534. The following routes have various lane restrictions for resurfacing: state Route 14 between the Portage County line and Columbiana County line, and state Route 165 from the northern Beloit Corporation limit to state Route 14. Estimated completion is late October 2025.
CWC hosting Holy Land lunch and learn Aug. 15
Columbiana Women's Club (CWC) will host Rev. Dr. Steve Cramer as he reveals the mysteries of The Holy Land during a noon lunch and learn on Friday, Aug. 15, at the clubhouse, 121 N. Main St. Explore the ancient sites, historical events and cultural significances that shaped three of the world's great monotheistic religions, Judaism, Islam and Christianity – and remains sacred to the Baha'i- during this adventure to The Holy Land with Grace Church interim Pastor Dr. Steve Cramer. Christmas in July set for July 26 in Lisbon
The Lisbon Eagles Aerie 2216 is sponsoring the Christmas in July/Concert in the Square from 1 to 7 p.m. July 26 at the Gazebo in downtown Lisbon. The schedule includes vendors from 1 to 7 p.m.; bounce house, games, tattoos and facepainting from 1 to 4 p.m.; Santa Claus from 1 to 4 p.m.; Casie & Dave from 2 to 4 p.m.; and Auto Play Band from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Vendors and a food truck are registered to set-up in the courthouse parking lot.
Great Trail Festival slated for late August
MALVERN - The 44th annual Great Trail Festival will be held Aug. 23-24 and Aug. 30-Sept. 1 at the Great Trail Festival Grounds, state Route 43, 6331 Canton Road. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The French and Indian Era re-creation offers two full weekends of olde time entertainment and activities.
There will be a marketplace featuring fine leatherwork, handwrought pottery, fragrant herbals and florals and primitive folk art. See fancy spinning, weaving, quilting and basketry. Watch the old-fashioned soap making, woodworking and wood carvers, instrument making, flint knappers, silversmiths, blacksmiths and more.
Music will include melodies of traditional and Appalachian musicians, Scottish pipers, show fiddlers, clog dancing and folk music.
At the Buckskin Rendezvous, buckskinners, fur trappers and blanket traders will display and offer items needed for frontier life. Open campfires, Teepee Lodges, cannon firing and tomahawk throwing are a few of the many varied and colorful things to see and do. The State of Ohio Tomahawk Throwing Championship will be held on Monday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m.
Kettle cooked foods will include thick ham and bean soup with johnnycake, genuine buffalo burgers, Indiana fry bread, hot apple dumplings, funnel cakes, copper kettle popcorn, roasted almonds, homemade nut rolls and pumpkin rolls, ice cream and more.
The event will also include the first re-establishment of native American buffalo in Carroll County since the demise of native American buffalo in Ohio in the late 18th century.
Admission is $8 adults, $7 senior, $5 youth (ages 12-18) and free for children under 12 years old.
