Sankovic joins SRMC staff
Dr. Ryan Sankovic
SALEM – Salem Regional Medical Center welcomes Fellowship Trained Physiatrist and Interventional Pain Medicine physician Ryan Sankovic, M.D., to its medical staff.
Services Provided
Double Board-Certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine, Sankovic specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain related to a variety of conditions, such as arthritis; back, neck and hip pain; fibromyalgia; cancer pain; and nervous system disorders.
He provides a wide range of both non-surgical therapies and innovative interventional and minimally invasive procedures for pain relief. His treatments include medication management, physical therapy, injections to the pain source, nerve blocks, implantation of spinal cord stimulators, peripheral nerve stimulator implants and sacroiliac (SI) joint injections used to diagnose or treat low back pain or symptoms of sciatica. In addition, he brings several new and innovative minimally invasive spinal procedures to the patients of our region, including Minimally Invasive Lumbar Decompression (MILD) and Verti flex for treating lumbar spinal stenosis, kyphoplasty for vertebral compression fractures, VIA Disc to reduce low back pain caused by disc degeneration and the Intracept procedure that uses radiofrequency energy directed to specific pain-causing nerves and disrupts their pain signals.
“Living with chronic pain can greatly limit a person’s ability to carry out their normal daily activities,” Sankovic said. “I am passionate about building strong relationships with my patients to help them manage their pain and regain their function and quality of life.”
“Beyond improving physical well-being, I also work together with my patients to address the impact of chronic pain on their mental health, which is often overlooked in those suffering from pain.”
Education and Training
A graduate of Canfield High School, Sankovic received a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science from the University of South Carolina. He went on to earn his medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University, followed by a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency at Beaumont (Corewell) Health in Michigan.
He furthered his medical education with a one-year Interventional Pain Medicine Fellowship at Detroit Medical Center, where he received extensive training in advanced pain management techniques.
For Sankovic, pursuing a career in medicine is a family affair. His father, Dr. Danny Sankovic, is a well-known General Surgeon affiliated with Salem Regional Medical Center.
